Rating: 4 of out 5 - Brilliant Little Book

Great little book with illustrations, photos,a calendar of what to pick and when and recipe ideas,a pocket sized book full of lots of information highly recommended!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Brief review

You may want to recheck the dimensions because it is pocket sized.

A very good gatherers book, which shows british plants that are found all year round with ideas of how to cook or eat them. The species are well discribed and illustrated with drawn pictures or photographs, often both making the plants easily identifiable.

The book often adds a few tips "cook for 2 minutes but no longer, otherwise the taste and texture will go and it'll go stringy"

The book has a calender at the front which has plants that grow in each month of the year so you can always be looking for some plant.

Example of the discription-
"Goosegrass
Widespread and abundant in hedges, woods and cultivated ground. A straggling, bristly annual 50-180cm (20-70 in) high with square stems. Leaves: narrow, pointed, in whorls of 6-8, covered with tiny turned-down prickles. Flowers: inconspicuous white, greenish-white, May-June."
continues with what it is widely known for, when to harvest and pick it and it's uses. It's all very brief and to the point.

Back of book discription-
"Richard Mabey's masterpiece in a backpack size
A guide to over 100 edible plants, berries, mushrooms, seaweed and shellfish- all beautifully illustrated
Advice on when to gather, what to pick and how to cook"

On the same day as I received this book(in the middle of january) I was able to successfully identify and eat two items that I found from this book. The fungi velvet shank and the plant chickweed. I would be lying to say that they were delicious but they weren't bad and the fun is in finding and eating your own food.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - great book

this is the original classic work on foraging for foods if you only ever buy one book this is it

Rating: 5 of out 5 - great little book!

great book fits easily into your pocket and is ideal to take on a ramble, lots of information about each plant and lovely illustrations which are very clear and make it obvious which plant to look for, there are photos of most of the plants too, only drawback for me would be the small print(there is a lot of information on a small page!)! suppose can't have it both ways!!love that there are recipes included too!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - making walks more enjoyable

what a great book,i had absolotutely no idea how many edible foods there are in the uk,tried some honey fungus last week, far better than shop brought mushrooms, still experementing.
