- A classic tale of a side of England long gone.
A classic book telling the story of a boy growing up in Slad, and covering the passing of an age, from where we move form the edwardian era to the modern. Sad in coverage of a bygone age, but beautiful in it's description. Entertaining in it's lively writing of the goings on of a growing young boy before TV, computers, and arcades. A must.

What a load of rubbish! Some books are written to BECOME classics, not to tell a story and this is one of them. The descriptions go on and on and on.... and the characters are impossible to sympathize with in any case. Anyone below 13 would find this book pornagraphic - Lee distinclty describes the feelings aroused in him when he is clutched to the bosom of his young teacher at the age of FOUR. One to miss!
