- Very boring.....film much better
Just finished this book, had it on the shelf for ages and never read it, even though I saw the film when it came out. I was really disappointed with the book, the film is much better (and funnier - probably due to the writing talents of Richard Curtis).
I got sick of having to read what she ate, drank, smoked etc at the beginning of each day, it broke up the story and became very repetitive and boring. I felt like I had to finish it to find out what happened in the end, but I couldn't really feel any sympathy for Bridget as I have very little in common with her. I don't think her character has much in common with many modern women. I can see why it sold by the shed-load, as it doesn't take much effort to read this type of novel.
The best parts of the book were used in the film, but they also wrote some new parts which are much funnier than anything in the book. Rent the film on video instead, if you haven't seen it already!

- I'm her, she's me!
My friend made me read this book because he said I was just like her! He was totally right (except my mother would never run off with a criminal!). It is completely true that every women can relate to her. It'll make you cry with laughter. I'd highly recomend reading the follow up 'The Edge of reason.'

- A Great Book, hilarious but sometimes depressing sometimes oc
"Bridget Jones's Diary" is a comedy book set in Londonin the twenty first centery 9today). It is all about life in the city and the main character is Bridget herself. She is tring to have a lasting relationship and a good career at the same time. It has very good description and you get a clear image of the story and all the characters by the end. Bridget likes her men and the two she has her eyes on are : Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver. Her story begins with a dairy entry and a short list saying her weight, amount of ciggerets smoked and more. It is unexpected and tells you this book is a dairy and going to be funny. I think this is a good way to start a book. If anything could be improved, I think it could say more about being a dairy. The story ends with the same ending as it started with but I don't think it was very good to finish with this.It was just left hanging. You had to imagen what you thought was going to happen. The writer is good at discribing, when she describes feeling she is superb. There is one part where Brigdet was depresed and I could almost feel it myself. The auther also uses very good contrasts. The noe i liked most was the one between two men. Mark is really smart, honest and kind but on the other hand daniel waas a lair.

- Couldn't put it down!
I first decided I really wanted to read this book when the film came out, but by the time I'd saved up enough money, I'd spent it, and lost interest.
Then my mum bought it. Read it. Didn't let me read it. So what did I do? Pinched it from her bedside cupboard, intended to read it once and put it back. The problem was, I read it about 10 times before even considering putting it back. I found myself not having the heart to put it back. It is so good! If you only read one book this year (or next year) make it this one!

- Don't bother reading the book......just go and see the movie
After going to the cinema and seeing the movie, which was fantastic, i was totally disappointed after reading the book. The book is mainly just a list of what she ate, drank and how many fags she smoked! It's so boring that i'm suprised i could read to the end!... After you have read it you feel like going up to Bridget Jones and giving her a smack in the face while telling her to get a life!...
