- ok thriller but stretches credibility and way too long
I had a problem with this book almost from the outset. The president of the US commits a brutal act of murder, but it is never explained why he acts this way; and such an outrageous premise really needs some explaining. Without it, we simply have a bunch of characters following through on the inevitable acts that follow. The characterization doesn't work very well either, they don't really develop, and they're all fairly predictable. There are plot developments, but nothing very surprising along the way. And it was way too long; it really could have lost a couple of hundred of its 550 pages.
So, an ok thriller but I was glad to get to the (too predictable) end. For credible characters and great stories, better try Ed McBain; for a story that won't let go, James Elroy.
Much better than Dan Brown though :)

- GRIPPING
Having only read one Baldacci book before (FIRST FAMILY)I had to read another and wasn't disappointed. The book was gripping throughout with a great cast of characters. It contained plenty of twists and turns leaving you wondering where it was going next, building into a riveting climax. This is a must read for anyone who likes Thrillers and Suspense.

- Good Plot but very long
Bought this book to read on Holiday after reading some reviews and have to say that the plot was good but it was a real effort to read the entire book.

First novel by this author and I would highly recommend.Probably a far fetched story involving an American President in murder and conspiracy but never the less a compelling read to reach the conclusion.

- PUBLISHERS REVIEW [From The Dust Jacket Flaps].
I believe that most readers choose a book from the publisher's advertisements, [eye catching, illustrated dust jackets / the publishers review(s) on the jacket flaps]. FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, I HAVE SUPPLIED A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE BOOK, AND HERE IS WHAT THE JACKET FLAP ['blurb'] STATES:

In the tradition of John Grisham and Scott Turow comes a riveting debut novel of murder, honour, loyalty and betrayal that targets the nightmare scenario that every citizen fears and reaches into the highest echelon of power - the Oval Office.
Set in Washington, D.C., this fascinating thriller of unparalleled suspense dares to explore an unthinkable abuse of power and criminal conspiracy: a vicious murder involving the US President and his mistress and a cover-up orchestrated by his zealously loyal Chief of Staff and the Secret Service. But, unknown to the President and his lackeys, one unlikely witness saw everything...
Trapped behind a two-way mirror in a country house in Maryland, Luther Witney, a professional burglar witnessed an event that destroyed even his faith in justice. Witney may be outside the law but even he has his limits. Now he is the property at stake.
For, by the time he escapes across the cornfield, pursued by two Secret Service agents, a young woman has been sexually assaulted, then shot dead. And a breathtaking cover-up has been set in motion.
Young lawyer Jack Graham, once engaged to Witney's daughter Kate, is the one man who believes in Luther's innocence. Yet it takes another murder before he realises the case is more than a struggle for justice. It's a sudden death battle for survival. Against the Oval Office. Against the FBI. Against the President of the United States.
Corporate lawyer turned blockbusting novelist David Baldacci has written a gripping tale of murder, greed, and corruption in the world's capitol of democracy, Washington, D.C. ABSOLUTE POWER is a diamond-hard thriller with a devastatingly realistic edge.
