Rating: 2 of out 5 - Life is too short to read Dan Brown

Being a reader of truly classic novels, I had begun to read Brown's books with a strong sense of scepticism. I knew he did not have the greatest command of the English language but his books are plagued with so many faults that one begs the question of how this man makes a living from being an author? Just before I read this novel, I had finished Digital Fortress which was undoubtedly the worst book I had ever had the misfortune to read. However, I saw signs of improvement when I started on Angels and Demons.

The majority of the book is sound. It is undeniably far-fetched but a story still emerges from the controversial plot although it is highly predictable but still readable. Unfortunately, as always seems to be the case with Brown's novels, in the last hundred or so pages, Angels and Demons descends into the farcical (if it wasn't there already) with an ending that is dragged out in places and littered with ridiculous twists in others. No doubt, Brown's aim is to surprise the reader with the completely unexpected but it occurs so frequently in the end that the plot collapses into a complete mess. Every good book has to be believable but by the end of this book, one wonders whether it should be placed under the fantasy genre as opposed to the thriller genre. Yet again, I found myself skim-reading towards the end, wanting tedium to cease as quickly as possible.

Clearly, Brown lacks plausibility and discipline when writing and he writes like no author I have ever come across. His books are written in the form of him describing a movie it seems and not in the style of how a good novel is written.

Do not be fooled. Just because something is controversial does not make it good. Brown has attempted to cover up his failings as an author through a bombardment of controversial events in his plot yet he has failed to pull the wool over my eyes. Sadly, the same can not be said for so many readers.

Rating: 1 of out 5 - Awful

This is one of the worst books I have ever read, I just can't decide what is the worst part of it...it could be the completly implausible story...it could be the appallingly bad research...it could be the juvenile writing...right from the opening chapter this book started toirritate me and I don't know why I finished. Only read this if you are desperate and have absolutly no other option!

Rating: 4 of out 5 - better than the da vinci code

i read the da vinci code and really enjoyed it so i thought i would give this a go.
I loved this book and i thought it was better than the da vinci code it had a fast pace from the moment the book started and had an ending which i drt think could be easily predicted.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - a collectors item

I bought this for my other half for his fathers day from one of the kids. He enjoys Dan Brown and I thought this would be an addition which he would appreciate.

The pictures are beautiful and enhance an already gripping read. I myself did not enjoy this book as much as the first one, which we also have in the illustrated and again this is also a wonderful addition to our collection.

If you collect books then this is a good addition to any book shelf.

Rating: 1 of out 5 - bum gravey mark 2

I read this book before I read Divinci code. If i'd read that book 1st i'd have never bothered and my world would be a better place. How in Gods name dose this stuff get published. why in the name of all that is sacred dose anyone buy it. I can only imagine Dan brown has made a deal with the devil. I've watched "baby TV" shows with more convincingly rendered characters.
