Average rating - 4.5 out of 5

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Very Handy

This book I found indispensable for completing the histological aspects of my course, it's easy to use and the diagrams and pictures are easy to understand.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Perfect Depth for Dental Students

I used this book a lot for the first year of dental school, and I found that it goes into the right amount of depth needed for the histology part of the course. I tried Wheaters, and also the images are better than Stevens and Lowe, the content is somewhat sparing and if does not go into enough detail for a pbl based course.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Hisology - no probs!

This book fills in the blanks nicely. It's well written and backed up with easily regognisable photos. The authors have related much of the book to clinical conditions keeping the reader focused (especially those on clinical courses). I used this book as part of my physiotherapy degree and it really suited me as I like my books to cut the waffle and get to the point quickly.

I agree with the authors in that Oesophagus looks prettier than Esophagus! But that is no reason to loose a star hence the 5/5 rating!

Rating: 3 of out 5 - Average-ish histology book

Human histology is a good histology book but not great as although it has a lot of detail it has nowhere near as many micrographs as Wheater's.

Also it seems to have reclassified connective tissue as 'support tissue' and divides it up in different sections which is really annoying because most lectures, textbooks, websites, etc. will still refer to it as 'connective tissue'.

Minor gripes aside the main problem is the lack of photos, [...]

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Clear and concise - excellent!

A distinguishing feature of this book is the extensive use of colour micrograph images. Unlike some textbooks in this area, every image uses stained human tissue. The content is divided into the different cell types, followed by the body systems. The design allows each chapter to be both detailed and readable. This is achieved by the use of coloured text boxes dividing the clinical examples and references to practical histology from the main text. The practical references assist the student in identifying the samples when using a microscope themselves. There are highlighted key fact sections for revision and question and answer reviews at the end of each chapter. An excellent clear and concise learning resource for the undergraduate medical student.
