- A good starting point
This isn't the most up to date book, as someone has already said there is no mention in there of movement licences or tagging of animals. The content isn't that detailed however it is a very good starting guide for people who wish to become self sufficient or even people who dream about it but never actually want to really. I think it's not the most realistic guide it makes things sound a little bit too easy but I think as a starting point its very good and certainly I would give it to anyone who mentioned wanting to become self sufficient to read.
Rating: - Fantastic introduction to self sufficiency
Excellent high level guide for living off the land. While not completely relevant to me right now living in central London I've learned everything from how to butcher a pig to how to build fences. The author has an endearing style and laugh-out-loud moments - his fondness for a nice little Jersey cow to love, for example.
Rating: - Better than ever!
Myself, and my mother before me, made great use of, and derived a lot of enjoyment from the first edition of this book. It helped each of us in turn make the most of the opportunites we had through living in a rural setting - and was still a firm favorite when we were each town dwellers. The new edition has lost none of it's appeal or value. It still manages to be comprehensive yet simple, offers great practical advice, and the new sections on green energy are a necessary and wonderful addition.
