Not Bad

Rating: 5out of 5 - Sassi_16

I didn't mind this film but I didn't get some of it, it was quite funny though and I loved the part where Sonic and Tails are trying to get away from Metal Robotnik when they kept going in and out. That made me laugh like hell and the part where Sonic hurts his groin as well was quite funny.

Rating: 2 of out 5 - The mis-adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the movie was originally two 30 minute OVAs made in Japan and released in the US to capitalise on the release of Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. As this is technically an original video animation (or OVA for short) the plot is further removed from the game series.

The premise behind the movie is simple; the evil Robotnik has created his ultimate robot Metal Sonic but for it to be initiated it needs a vital ingredient, Sonic's DNA. Robotnik tricks our hero Sonic into making a daring trip to Robotropolis in order to stop a device that would, if activated destroy the planet with the villain pinning the blame on a robot double-ganger of him.

The movie has, alongside Sonic, Tails and Knuckles movie produced human characters Sarah and her father who is the president of the Land of the Sky. These are possibly the most pointless editions to the movie; the president is barely a president at all and his daughter is the love interest of Sonic; I don't know what Sega has with furry/human relationships but beside that is the fact is that she's an annoying bitch that only serves to add poor comedy slapstick to the film. It doesn't help that EVERY character is miss-cast, voiced poorly and therefore become more unlikeable; don't get me started on the Old Owl.

Those expecting a detailed story with twists and turns will be disappointed as the movie moves along at an unrelenting pace, barely ever stopping for pause or fore-thought. Of course that's what most people want, right? Sonic and Tails rushing against the clock, engaging in epic battles along the way and naturally there are plenty of frantic fights, the main attraction being Sonic vs Metal Sonic. The fights aren't well thought out, seemingly brainless speed sequences in a similar vein to Dragon Ball but without the pacing or great characters.

Overall this is worth a look but don't expect anything thought provoking or great plot ideas. This is simply a selection of enjoyable battle sequences tied together with crude comic slapstick; most of us wouldn't have it any other way.

Rating: 1 of out 5 - Absolutely dire

Sonic the Hedgehog was the character that made Sega a big name, starred in some fantastic games back in the '90s. That's why it's so disappointing that the character has been so disgracefully treated both in cartoons and in recent 3-D games. For what its worth, this 'movie' (60 minutes long) involves Sonic going down to the underworld where he must face an evil robotic Sonic. Running along and hitting enemies might provide endless fun in a video game, but a film needs more than that. What is more, the same sequences are used over and over again. The characters are irritating, from the whining, tantrum-throwing 'damsel in distress' to a version of Eggman/Robotnik who is so stupid it's impossible to take him seriously. And what's with Knuckles and that ridiculous hat? The animation looks cheap and the vocals are atrocious. An insult to the video game character, this is nothing but a tacky cash-in made without care or interest.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - yey! sonic!

I have always been a fan of sonic, though i think he has dropped in 'coolness' in more recent years - sonic underground was beyond words for how dissapointing i found it, and Sonic X, well...could it be any more politically correct?! it used to be about sonic, not his human friends!!

but this movie is IT. Wonderful animation, i think when i first saw it (granted, a few years ago) i watched it seven times. Sonic is cool and and so are all of his friends, with a ground breaking ending. if ur a sonic fan dont waste ur time on Sonic X or underground - this is the ultinate movie. :)

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Excellent / Boring

The first part of the movie (episode 1 in the original japanese version) is really good and fun with lots of references to the games. (Spikes, Springs, Badniks etc.)

The second is not so good with the battle for half an hour. BORING! It is good at frst but it gets worse. The ending is good but the story jumps a lot can jump a lot in the middle of the movie.

Otherwise this is a good movie though Tails sounds like a little girl with a cold and Knuckles somehow can fly) If you want a good Sonic movie this is for you! However this is nothing like Sonic SatAM/AoStH/Sonic Underground/ Sonic X!

There are many good points and bad points but altogher when you watch the movie all the way through you just can't help but watch it again.

Rating: 2 of out 5 - Speeding through

This "Movie" comprises of two separate episodes of Sonic The Hedgehog in his battle with Metal Robotnik and Hyper Metal Sonic.

Very brief and aimed at the children's end of the anime market, the sotry won't be chanllenging your brain and most of the story will be forgotten almost in an instant.

Animation is sound but not up to the standards that you expect from more recent Japanese animation. The English language dubbing is well done but the voice casting is all wrong. The characters of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles all need to sound a lot older and in the case of Sonic, less stuck up.

Extras give you very little. Biographies of all the main characters, a slide show of still from the movie and trailers for other DVD releases from ADV Films.

Great for life-long Sonic The Hedgehog fans and for children, but for Anime fans there is not a lot to like about it.
