- Architecture of Dreams
I've never been a great fan of DVD extras, feeling that they offer little insight and add little to the film experience. However, the extras on this DVD really do add an extra layer of thinking to the film. In particular, the extra Architecture of Dreams deepens the understanding of the film itself and stimulates the curiosity to investigate furhter some of the ideas explored in the film.
A thought provoking and enjoyable film, boosted by its extras.
Rating:
- A must own sci- fi.
Dark city is a classic sci-fi, its a film that opens up your immagination
like few others. Its dark ( hence the title), and for the paranoid amongst you it will enforce your confusion with life. all I can say is I loved it, and you will too.

Want to see what life was like before the Wachowski brothers started messing with your perception of reality? Watch this movie.
Rating:
- forgotten gem
I never saw the original so can't comment if this is as much improved as other reviewers report. But as a complete sleeper of a film (geddit?) Dark City is a real treat. The comic/gothic/sci-fi/40s/50s design has been emulated a few times but is done here as well as anywhere else. The plot unravels at a great pace. The acting, script, direction and special effects are all way better than average.
My only gripes.. Rufus Sewell has mad eyes and Jennifer Connelly's main talents aren't nearly on show enough.

- It's okay, but...
I remember when Rufus Sewell was going to be the next Ralph Fiennes; shame that it didn't quite happen for him. If you are thinking of watching this after 2009 be aware it is VERY dated in terms of visual realism. In HD it's (almost) a joke, in my opinion. If you can suspend your disbelief, go for it... good story, slightly disconcerting use of SLAUGHTER throughout, but a Blade Runner feel was was they were going for... presumably. All in all: enjoyable, but - think about it this way - is life long enough to fit this in? (I am doubtful). Richard O'Brien (the hunchback in Rocky Horror) drifts in and out of the film - a 'bad' guy that never really poses a threat; you end up spending the whole movie thinking "where have I seen that guy before...?". Kiefer Sutherland's mad professor is hauntingly badly acted. Jennifer Connelly - raunchy. STRANGE ending.
