Rating: 5 of out 5 - Amazing work

Going beyond the day to day critiques of the capitalist system and the fascist overtones of power embedded in any institution, Passolini created a masterpiece that disturbs and resonates thorugh to its shocking conclusion. Based on Sade's 120 days, Salo is a masterpiece in its own right.

This Blu Ray edition looks and sounds better than any other previous version, and its good quality of docos make it the ultimate version. Highly recommended.Salo, Or The 120 Days Of Sodom [Blu-ray] [1975]

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Blue Ray

This is a very fine edition, but note that this is a Blue Ray disc.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Horrible visions

This sadistic nightmare, at times unbareable to watch for many people (coprofagia, for instance, is really not my thing),
is a brave and artistically potent, ambitious allegory of evil - placed in the most decadent of the fascist regimes (Salo), but appliable (at least in intent) to all structures of power.
Maybe it's not the best Pasolini, but it's certainly not meaningless nor pornographic - the arousal some may get from some scenes is part of Pasolini's strategies; it's actually surprisingly similar to Hitchcock's trick of making you root for seriously disturbed heroes (see "Vertigo", for instance).

Actually, if the sadistic violance was more appealing, maybe the film would be even better, more "subversive". But, that's just one perspective on the film. Scattered with philosophical and other cultural references, "Salo" may be even more appealing to non-cinematic oriented intellecutal audiences than for the more cinema-oriented fans.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - One of the greatest

Sure, it's a bold statement to say that one of the most inarguably disgusting films on earth is also one of the greatest. But no one seems to read between the lines.

Salo isn't a simple exploitation film. And whilst all the rumours you've probably heard are definitely true (coprophagia, rape, torture etc), Pasolini (director/co-writer) himself says the film is highly symbolic and metaphorical.

The film is a representation of fascism, but I also interpret it heavily as a representation of capitalism. Pasolini is quoted as having said that the "coprophagia meal" scene was symbolic of fast-food chains and mass-produced food. But when you look further into the film, the symbolism starts getting clearer and clearer.

Sex means nothing in the film, and is (almost) never in private or in any way intimate, and is representative of the commercialisation of sex. The final scene (which I won't give away) seems to be the end result of non-compliance with government, and the fact that you do have no choice or true freedom.

It may take a while for it to sink in, but I feel that what government does to people is as disgusting as the scenes this film. And that's what this film should represent.

Rating: 1 of out 5 - sick,sad,disgusting

sick, sad, disgusting, I'm trying very hard to find something good to say about this atrocity, sorry, cant!, not clever , not art.definitely not sexy,I now fell ashamed at watching this perverse rubbish never mind owning it. I regretfully say I bought a blu-ray version of this film and if any one wants it thy can have it.
If your just looking for a 1970's soft porn, stay well clear.
