Very good film indeed.I saw it once on the tv and was so happy when i found the DVD.The sound was a bit low,even if you had it on full volume,but that aside,i would definately recommend this movie.Well worth watching.Thumbs up for me

bought this for my mum because she loves it, i watched it and i got angry, i cried, then i just felt pity, definatly a film where you are there living through everything the cast are, you share their moments of sorrow and devastation! a must see! dont miss it!

Rating: - Astonishing - and thought provoking - A 'Must Watch' film

Considering the all star cast, you may be fooled into thinking this is simply a high action drama. WRONG. It covers a horrifying - and all too credible - story of life for 4 young men behind bars. The 4 commit a crime and are sent to a childrens 'prison' for between 6 and 18 months. What they endure..........truly horrifying. A film which creates anger, horror, extereme emotion, challenge - and pretty much every other emotion, this film leaves you thinking about the content long after the film has ended. Whether it is a true story or not doesn't matter in a way = we know these things happened = but the strength of the movie lies in the the characters NOT over-acting, the direction being harsh, but clear and fair, and the viewer being left.......scarred.

Above anything this film is about the power of friendship and the power of revenge. Set in the ethnically diverse and tough area of New York's Hells Kitchen, the film charters the journey of 4 kids who's reckless actions result in a incident that will change their lives forever. The film is a really rewarding watch from start to finish with solid performances from A-list cast including Dustin Hoffman, Brad Pitt, Robert De Nero and Kevin Bacon. Stand out performances come from Robert De Niro who plays a hard nosed uncompromising priest and Kevin Bacon who is in his element as a sick and twisted prison warden. The films subject matter of sexual abuse, violence and cold blooded revenge makes for a dark watch but not without its rewards. The transition from the harrowing experiences of 4 young men at the Wilkenson Home for Boys to there ultimate revenge 13 years later could have been a difficult gap to bridge but it works well with a solid performance from Joseph Perrino playing the younger version of character Lorenzo 'Shakes' Carcaterra. Overall a film well worth investing 147 minutes in, profound and shocking and ultimately rewarding.
