- Good vs Evil
I was so desperate to see the final instalment of the Next Generation film series, despite not even being a huge Trekkie. The previous TNG films were all amazing, but this one lacked the power the others did. It was by all means a good film, but compared to others it was a dissapointment.
The wedding was a nice surprise, and it was sad to hear that Riker was finally taking up his own command. It was also good to see the 1701-E again, but a small part of me wishes that it was damaged enough to warrant a 1701-F at the end of the film.
As for the storyline itself, it was week and boring. Kate Mulgrew deserved a much bigger part as I love her as a captain, it would be nice to see more of her as an admiral, but not as the End Game admiral we saw at the end of the series. I got all excited at the mention of a fleet, even if it only contained 8 ships, but where was it? A TNG film isn't a TNG film without a nice big fleet in it. Shinzon was a nice idea, but only really worthy of an episode storyline. And why Data? If i remember correctly there was once a temporal TNG episode where the first officer of the Enterprise was a Commander Data, but then the timeline could of been changed as I do not remember it all that well.

- Not as bad as everyone said!!!
This film had pretty awful reviews when it came out. In reality, this is a perfectly good, entertaining film which boasts some impressive special effects. As usual Patrick Stewart puts in an excellent performance as Catain Picard and is backed up by the reliable next generation cast. This film contains a number of sub-plot elements which combine to create a broad spectrum of emotions and real life issues previously unseen in a Trek film. The plot itself is an interesting tale which can be easily related to modern issues for example the social barrier between the romulans and remans in the plot can easily compare to apartheid. All in all therefore, i believe that this was a thoroughly enjoyable film undeserving of the heavy criticism it took which seems to be mainly due to the heavy burden of being a Star Trek film.

- A plot that is full of holes. But damn good Trek Film
It seems Trek fans either love or hate this film. Personally I loved it. When the film finished I wanted to watch it again.
The worst thing about the film is the plot, but then have the plot lines in trek films ever been that good? With the exception of Star Trek 2, no they haven't. At one point the Enterprise is boarded by the excellent Ron Pealman (he steals the show! Just like he did in Alien 4) and his Remus cronies. You would expect the nearest security team to handle it, but it ends up being Riker and Worf that have to exit the bridge and deal with the intruders. It's Star Treks biggest strength and its greatest weakness that every scene has to have at least one of the main characters in it; it's just not very believable. The plot has quite a few holes and is not very well explained in parts (Why does Shinzon want to wipe out the Human race?), and continuity with the trek time line is all over the place (What is Worf doing on the Enterprise?).
That's the bad points. Onto the good.
The intro to the film is Ace, very low key and brings you straight into the film. Visually the film is stunning and has a very dark feel to it (I love dark films). The inside of the Scimitar ship is especially well done. Once the main story line is underway the pace of the film keeps up throughout. The space battle scenes are very well done, as are all the special effects. Overall the film had a very "gritty" feel to it.
The film does seem to be trying to re-create "The Wrath Of Khan" but falls quite short. That said the film is better than all the other Trek films. (Including the very good "First Contact")
Well worth watching if you love Trek or Sci-Fi.

- This IS a good movie
This was an excellent movie, the plot was pretty good, the FX where just wonderful, the cast is as good as eve. Someone says the end is bad, I don’t think it’s bad, though I do feel that they gave Data up a little too easy. The bad guy was pretty good, though they really did rush the Picard clone. The Remans looked superb (Gave me a flashback to Buffy)
Now, why do so many people think this is bad? Because they don’t want new trek, they want old trek, they want it the way it used to be. Maybe we should put Star Trek in the closet again, because it’s hard to please the crowd these days.

- Why has it been put down so much??..
I was shocked when I read the reviews of the film after its theatrical release.. I came out of the cinema totally impressed, almost as good as First Contact, now that's saying something. The Trek films have always expanded beyond their sci-fi "boundaries" to examine present day attitudes in a fine style, and this is certainly no exception. Great scriptwriting, fabulous presentation from Patrick Stewart and the gang.
People say that the comical scenes are aweful - but compare that to the star wars saga!
The only reason it doesn't fetch the full 5 stars - what about the characters that dont play a lead role? We don't see enough of them. Although I'm not surprised, a great performance from the main characters!
