- Live long and prosper
This is the part i find the hardest.... starting a review. especially when the thing your reviewing is so good, just like Star Trek: Nemesis was. From the opening credits to the end it was a marvel to watch.
For those who aren't up to date with the storyline here's a brief; Nemesis takes place just after Riker and troi have been married when the Enterprise - E is called away to discuss peace with the romulans.(Didn't know the romulans knew what peace ment?) eventually they discover an evil plot by Shinzon who carries a dark secret and has a frightening connection to Picard. Not telling you too much cos that will spoil the ride.
To be honest, what i've told you is a mere particle of space dust compaired to the hugeness of the movie. I absolutely cannot wait till this comes out on DVD. It is a must have in all departments.
There are Excellent visuals, superb ship to ship combat, in which you see the Enterprise almost destroyed, (Well it needs a paint job to say the least.) A good fight scene involving Riker and the Reman 2nd in command.
Humor. ("Humor...I Love it!!" Data - Generations);
Along with a touching ending that will bring tears to your Trekkie eyes.
If you aren't a Trekkie then never fear as its still an entertaining epic of a movie. A must see!!
Pity you can only go upto 5 stars... ***********

- Data's prototype???
Yet another Trek film, this one the last with The Next Generation crew aboard. Mercifully in a totally different league to the previous offering (Insurrection), which must be far and away the worst of the ten, Nemesis portrays a darkness rarely seen in the genre, and to good effect too.
However, hardened fans of the TV series will be appalled at the continuity blooper (and consequently the missed plot opportunities) regarding Data's "prototype". No mention is made in the film whatsoever of Lore, who was already well established in TNG as the evil "older brother" of Data. Read the original film script and he's there. For me, the impostor that was presented instead really spoiled what was otherwise an enjoyable way to spend two or so hours.

- All Good Things...
There are those of us who bitterly compare this film to the superb Wrath of Khan, and not without reason. Nemesis strongly echos the 1981 film, what with vengeance, the threat of armageddon and starship battles, etc. But Nemesis has more to offer.
Those of us familiar with Star Trek: The Next Generation will recognise some of the on-going storylines that the series had to offer; the on-off relationship between Riker and Troi, Riker's repeated offers of his own command, the friendship between Data and Geordie LaForge, and Data's quest to become as human as possible.
While the action and visual effects are, as you'd expect, fantastic and awesome there are some strong, tear-jerking character moments and well delivered lines from all of the cast - with a special mention for the under-praised Brent Spiner (Data).
This film was touted as "A generation's final journey", and since most of these on-going stories are finally laid to rest in this film I think it's safe to assume it is, at the least, the final Trek with this crew.
All in all, Nemesis is a strong Action-adventure film with perhaps only one flaw: It's too ambitious and seems therefore to gloss over the story without developing it. That aside, great fun for trekkers and a very enjoyable film for the non-enlightened among us.

- Where did it all go wrong?
Next Generation crew, big budget, celebrated screenwriter and it's an even numbered trek. Sounds too good to be true.
It is.
Lack of story, sooo much padding out of the script, awful direction from Baird, lacklustre editing, poor lighting. More surprisingly, it is fairly characterless, even from the regular cast, who just seem to be in it for the money these days. However, to his credit, Tom Hardy turns in a decent performance as revenge obsessed, follically challenged bad guy Shinzon.
Oh yes - it is very amusing to see a fat, 50 year old Commander Riker diving down a tunnel. Surely the comedic highlight of the movie.
In the end, it is a bit of a mess, never managing to get out of first gear. Jonathan Frakes should have directed. Baird should stick to editing.
Unfortunately this movie somes up everything about today's Star Trek: It's all about being a money making franchise, less about the content. Roddenberry would not approve.

- Terrible End
Whether you had high hopes for this film or not the result is a terrible mess of ideas and badly edited themes. Anyone familiar with Star Trek II will see the poorly disguised rehash coming a mile off but whereas II was a classic exercise in depicting revenge and space action adventure this is simply boring. Possibly the worse thing you can say about an action movie is that it fails to hold your attention and unfortunately this is the case here. The extended space battles are simply dull - compared to the tense and well scored clashes in Star Trek II. The tension is not built up in any coherent way and and such there is no climatic moment - although several times you get
the impression you are meant to be feeling that there is.
The villain is no Khan - which wouldn't be bad except he is clearly meant to be the Next Generation equivalent.
All in all very disappointing - the only people who should buy this are the Trekkers who just get a kick out of seeing the crew on screen again.
