- Star Trek Excellance
What more can I add to the fantastic review that Rexeller (top 1000 reviewer) has`nt already said. Other than I agree with every single word .I awaited the release with baited breath and is one of the few films I have seen within two days of release. I was not disappointed. I sat through the movie with a huge school boy grin except at the sadder moments of the film. I had read reviews prior to the release that indicated that the makers had over indulged in the wedding scenes. What utter nonsense, it was there and gone within a few minutes, not to say that it was`nt both neccessary and enjoyable. The scenes with the Remans in near darkness were chilling . I sat with my jaw on the floor as the special effects dept went all out in the ramming scene and when the ships separated to see the enterprise with a huge whole in the bridge was awesome.
The ending scene with the death of Data, whilst not in the same league as Spock`s, was none the less very poignant and a little hope, maybe, for Data`s future with the android B4.
A thoroughly enjoyable movie and I wait once again in anticipation of the DVD.

- Definitely for the more romantic trekkie.
Personally TNG and Voyager were my favourite - TNG for style, class and whit, Voyager for skirmishes, tact and cheese. Star Trek Nemisis has kept me happy in the absense of a good star trek series. I loved this film, not as much as First Contact, but it is very much in the same style as the last. I am not a trekky as such, but I like Star Trek. This film is definitely the people like me, looking for more of a romantic/soppy side along with action. I think this is one of the best written star treks - even my mum liked it (hates ST)!! OK... I wont give u any hints on what happens... but this film will get you thinking!

- Great Star Trek Film!
I have to say I really enjoyed this film. Parts of it are lifted from Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country and First Contact, but it still works fine on it's own.
You probably know the plot, so I won't bother explaining it. I will say that Shinzon is a good villain-better than Ru-Afo in Insurrection, but he is a bit weedy at times, and nowhere near as much fun as Khan.
I don't understand why this flick has not done brilliantly in America, maybe it's just the release dates. Sticking it with Die Another Day and Tolkien's snore-inducing epic is not a good idea, but if they do make a Star Trek 11, it will have to go some way to match this.
Buy it as soon as it comes out!
Rating:
- Good, but not a classic
As a trek fan I found the film for the most part enjoyable, but unfortunatly there are a number of plot problems that only the most dedicated Trekkie could overlook. The Trek franchise seems to currently be going through a similar period to Bond: that is it cannot work out how to reinvent itself as time moves on. This unfortunatly means that this is a film that is constantly looking to (and highlighting to the audience) its own past instead of coming up with new ideas for the future.
The result is almost a 'clip' show from the series, just with the actors looking a little older now. There is the whole idea of peace with the Romulans (Star Trek VI); the idea of Data finding a 'brother', something which was done far more competently in the series with 'Lore'; a personal nemesis for the captain resulting in a final sacrifice to save the ship by a major character (Star Trek II); right down to the Enterprise getting a new 'cool' shuttlecraft (An Enterprise 'Delta Flyer').
This continuing sense of deja vu is unfortunatly coupled with the current directoral trend of having graphics for graphics sake. The scene where the crew takes the shuttle craft down to retrieve Data's 'brother' is graphically speaking very impressive, but it is totally and utterly pointless to the plot. The away team is attacked (for no apparent reason) by a group of aliens, leading to a high paced, Bond style car chase. This whole scene could have been done in literally two seconds by just beaming the android up, and could have saved some screen time for the other major characters (The rest of the crew seems to be simply supporting cast for Picard and Data).
Overall, the film is enjoyable, if you can overlook the obvious problems. This would be a competent note for the Next Generation crew to go out on, but hardly a classic.

- The worst Trek ever?
Absolutely dreadful. Turgid plot with holes so big you could fly all the Enterprises through them side by side at once.
All the actors have a really good stab at putting life into this dead parrot but struggle.
Fault lies with the gastly script, and poor flat direction and just goes to show that wooden dialogue that barely works in an "Epic" like Gladiator falls flat on its face when taken out of its "primitive" surroundings.
The worst part of the plot is the treatment of the Romulans. A proud martial race with a belief in their manifest destiny to rule the galaxy, who go and let a subjegated race build a massive Planet killing starship right on their doorstep and then surrender power with little more than a cough. Then one of them belatedly gets a fit of concience because the baddy plans to destroy the enemy who stands in the way of their galactic domination.
What? A bit like Nazis surrendering power to the Jews who happen to develop a nuclear bomb in Berlin and then Goring blowing up the weapon when it is about to be dropped on Moscow and saying sorry.
The Film is ok if you know absolutely nothing about Trek and want to see a mindless Sci Fi film a'la Lost In Space/Planet of the Apes remake.
If you want to see some thought provoking Sci fi or a good continuation of the Trek franchise look elsewhere.
