Rating: - A great season for one of the greatest shows ever

This was the first series that I really got me interested in Buffy. After living abroad for a few years, I came back to the UK to find season 5 running on the BBC. I watched a few of the episodes and got so into it that I decided to buy the box set to see how it ended, and to see how it began. I loved it so much that I also bought all the preceding box sets and watched them constantly.

In typical Buffy fashion, the is a fairly deep story arc involving a demon, in the form of a very attractive human women, who wants to get back to her own dimension. In doing so she must obtain the "Key". During the course of the season, Buffy finds out what the key is and has to protect it.

The episodes in season 5 set are wildly varied. In general all the episodes are enjoyable to watch, although some are better than others as to be expected. Some deal with the main story arc, but others involve Buffy and the gang having to deal with various demons and vampires. With the amount of characters appearing in Buffy the director clearly takes advantage of the huge scope that exists to develop the various characters in the show. In general, each episode is not only entertaining, but moves the story forward, until we reach the final climatic battle at the end.

The first half of the season establishes the main threat to the world and helps establish the characters and relationships that exist between the diverse members of Buffy's entourage. But it is in the second half that the tempo is increased, with each episode flowing so smoothly into the next that the viewer cannot wait to see what happens next.

In general, this is one of the best seasons ever televised for a show such as this. The use of the solid story arc in the Buffy series makes the whole thing so much more engrossing for the viewers. I will always have a fondness for season 5, because it got me interested in Buffy, which is easily my favourite series on television, only rivalled by Babylon 5. So I have no hesitation in giving it five stars.

Rating: - The Best Season of Buffy ever.

I got this season late. I had ALL the other seasons including the ones after it. The only reason I didn't get it before was that I thought it didn't look much good. But I have to say that it is the best season of Buffy full stop, no questions asked.
The episodes are richly layered. There is a main plot which is about the Key and Glory, who may I say is the best villian ever known. There are also smaller plots within it. The fighting is the best you will ever see. The humour is at best. The magic is brilliant, although I must say not as good as the magic in season 6. But still don't let that put you off. However, we see a semi-dark Willow against the inevitable Glory. Did I mention she is the best Villan ever, LOL!!! The Special features are amazing, the picture quality is brilliant and clear. The sound is crisp. What more do you want. Get this season above all others.
There is not one episode that is boring are slow.

Rating: - Buffster season 5

I think this season of Buffy s the best yet. With Buffys new sister coming into the show it turns around the plot lines of buffy.
Willow and Tara are together but everybody finds out a secret about Tara in the episode called 'Family'. In this episode it is Taras Birthday and her 'parents' come to take her home only to reveal that Tara is a Demon. Taras father tries to force her into the car to take her home but buffy and dawn come to save the day when they refuse for him to take Tara home against her own free will. But things get worse a goddess (Glory) is realeased and threatens to bring all 3 dimensions into the earth so she tries to look for the key. At 1st she thinks it is Tara so after her and Willow have an argument Glory seases the perfect opportunity to get Tara . She soon learns afterwards that Tara is not the key , but having afdfected Tara already she turns disabled and childlike . Then its Willow who saves the day. Glory realises that Dawn is the key and havoc occurs when dawn is cut and the 3 portals are opened. The only way to save everyone is to jump into . Dawn tries to but Buffy stops her and jumps in herself and dies . .. until season 6

Rating: - A Buffy season that even the Gods would be proud of...

Season 5 really turns the Buffy universe around. Expect major changes, big revelations and phenomenal storylines. As usual, this season comes with about 24 episodes, however this season is far from episodic. Apart from a few episodes which are self contained, season 5 is mainly just one big long storyline continued throughout.

And what a storyline - Glory, a god in human form, is threatening to spill all realities onto earth, effectively destroying it. Of course, it's up to Buffy to stop the most dangerous enemy she's ever gone up against - can she truly be mightier than a god?

This season is virtually faultless - a wacky blend of humour, horror and action. It is well paced throughout.

The best thing about this season, once again, is Spike, and his constant pining after Buffy. Yes, the series uber-villain has the hots for the Buffster, and its hilarious to see that play out. Spike still gets to have huge fight scenes along the way, but being the coolest and funniest character out of them all he steals every scene.

And good riddance to Riley! While he was perfect for series 4, he really didn't have much to do here, and it was only a matter of time before he left - although the circumstances upon which he leaves are shocking and surprising.

But the biggest new entry to the series is Dawn, Buffy's sister. Sister? Yes, exactly, a complete turn around for the show, and a fantastic development. At first I thought it could be annoying, having a yuonger sprog get in the way, but Michelle Trachtenberg plays Dawn very well, and is never once annoying or unrealistic. The character is extremely important to the series, and her storyline takes a while to play out and make sense, but it really provides the emotional connection to this series, which is no better realised than by the series finale...

All the gang are back too. Xander is better in this series, more funny and less annoying. Anya is also becoming a well fleshed out character too, and one of the highlights of the episodes. Giles, now brought back to full watcher status, even sets up his own shop, which gives his character more of a purpose after he just mulled around in series 4 after the loss of his library.

There are very few clunker episodes, with most of the boring episodes being the self contained, baddie on the loose, buffy kills it storyline. The best episodes are the ones which have Glory in them, developing her plot to kill Buffy and Dawn. The best storyline though is one set in the past, and details the history of Spike - superb!
