Rating: 5 of out 5 - WAP54G Review

A nice little unit, range is pretty good and set-up wizard works a treat - 5-STARS

Rating: 1 of out 5 - This is without doubt the worst piece of junk I have ever bought

I tried to give Zero but had to give it one star -6 is more like it.
The access point worked O.K dropping connection now and again BUT it has just got worse and worse. the CD now will not pick up the device so we cannot set it up.
The manual is wriong if you reset the thing, sometimes takes 10 seconds on reset button some times 60 seconds. The manual askes you to put in admin admin as user and password iT is HOWEVERE blamk admin as a login.
I have found it drops the connection randomly. Once it has dropped of rebooting it again and again to try and get it working again.
We have had this for 6 months now and If we go one night without having reboot were lucky. I'm trying now to get iot on the network long enough to try a firmware upgrade. but without much success!
This made me actually want to do a review to warn the rest of you out there. One thing I did was check forums for help and what I describbed above is all over them. avoid product.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Quick easy set up

I am no expert on networks but the quick to use Wizard makes setting up this small attractive unit easy. It works well and does not very get hot. Connection seems quite quick. My only minor grumble is that the set up wizard is for Windows machines not MAC OS. I don't think this is that obvious from the sales literature. Once set up though it works well with my MAC and ipod Touch. I needed to borrow a PC just to use the enclosed wizard CD. Hope that helps.

Rating: 3 of out 5 - Instructions lacking

This is our first wireless and we have hooked into an existing Linksys wired router. Thought that was it but there are so many options and not understanding all the jargon makes it not so obvious which to choose. This is why I gave 3 stars - as the hardware works fine but the instructions and setup CD just leave you hanging if it doesn't all work perfectly. So a few tips for dummies like me: 1. Turn off your firewall during setup; 2. If the CD setup cannot find your access point but all lights are working (as well as a light on the wired router), open a browser and enter the IP address - if you don't know what it has been set to - open the admin window of your wired router using the IP address of that - go to Status ->Local Network -> click on DHCP client table. If you don't know/can't remember the IP of the wired router, run "cmd.exe" -> type "ipconfig /all" then use the DHCP server IP address. 3. From the admin window you can reset all the security, etc. We found that we needed a different channel than the default. Also we tested it first without security to check all our settings were OK. 4. From the client machine, we had a USB wireless dongle so the connection needs to be set up in that software not in the Windows Wireless Wizard thing. It didn't seem to work with the passphrase we set, so had to type in the whole hex key -!? - but then it worked - at last!! I think Linksys lets itself down by not providing a comprehensive instructions and/or troubleshooting.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Rock solid

Rock solid bit of equipment, excellent range, ultra easy to configure, client modes a bit iffy at times but once it is connected it works perfectly.

I Recommend upgradeing to hyperwap 2.08 , you can boost the transmission strength by up to 8 times 15mw - 83mw. Optimum reported strength being 45mw (to avoid internal reflection, routers shouting so loud it's deaf to weaker incoming signals).
