Tiscali broadband users opting for Netgear DG834v2

Rating: 5out of 5 - Jahed

hey yall. i am with Tiscali and i bought this router from broadbandbuyer.co.uk for cheap. anyway i have a message for tiscali customer who are having trouble connecting this router to be used with more than 1 computer. please update the firmware version to V3.01.25. its comes with Version 2.10.22. you can download this from http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/dg834v2.asp to update the firmware you go to the router setup by entering: 192.168.0.1 in your net browser and click 'router upgrade'. the file should be called 'DG834_V3.01.25.img' and just press upload, wait a few minutes, restart and remember to press the reset button at the back. and hey presto, your tiscali connection should now be recognised and your away. i had this problem, looks on reviews and forums but to no avail. i hope this help. and also you can view the router settings for tiscali on: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/broadband/router_settings.html and enter them manually. enjoy

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Netgear DG834 Modem Router

This is my second Netgear router, I've been using the first for well over five years with absolutely no problems. They are easy to set up and once up and running you can more or less forget about them.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Worth Every Penny

This router replaced my BT Voyager 190 ethernet modem/router. As my ISP is AOL they fully support this router and supply their own 'Easy Installer' which is preferred to the Netgear installation CD. Therefore, installation was a 'piece of cake' Even my connection speed increased by over 1 Mbps. (It is possible that most make of routers would give increased performance over a USB modem)As with most other reviews, I can only say, that if you are in the market for a first class router you cannot go wrong with this one.

Rating: 2 of out 5 - A bit long in the tooth. Not ETH0A.

You have to read my review with a pinch of salt, because I didn't get it to work!

This is really an old peice of kit, rebadged several times where ADSL2+ looks like an afterthought in the firmware.

The unit (Purchased Feb 2010) is Version 4 and ships with the lastest 5.01.14 firmware. Unfortunately, unknown to me, this latest firmware prevents SKYPE and VOIP from working effectively. Those in the netgear forum, have found downgrading the firmware allows skype to work - and no, it's not just a case of re-opening some UPNP ports. As I use voip on a daily basis, then this is not a good start. But I can't mess with firmware and jeopardise my 30 day return policy.

Having said that, I couldn't get the modem to connect anyway!

As I am on an ETH0A LLU connection, rather than a BT Wholesale IPSTREAM PPP0A, this modem doesn't make provision for an ETH0A connection - it will try everything else instead - and fail. It still thinks it needs either a static IP (which I don't have)or a Logon (which you don't need on LLU) and I spent most of an evening trying numerous combinations. I reverted to another brand of ADSL2+ modem (albeit more modern) which worked more or less out the box.

The only thing I manage to test was its DCHP and LAN!

If you're on a BT wholesale IPSTREAM or an 'Access' type service then it will probably work. If you're on a modern local-loop-unbundled service (ISP's kit in your local exchange) then it may not.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Perfect purchase!

Not over techy, but my parents computer kept dropping out of the internet for over 6 months.. ISP guys said the connection was fine and suggested I try a new router - my previous one was renowned for problems. I was recommended to this Netgear router. It wasn't cheap (for me!) but I took it out of the box, plugged it in, followed commands and hey presto - instant connection and it's been that way ever since. V Happy!

Rating: 4 of out 5 - OK so far

First one failed. Replaced with startling efficiency. Second one
still going strong after several weeks. Hardware fine. Setup
a total doddle. Documentation wholly inadequate, as usual, but
adequate information found on the web.
