- do not buy if you are on tiscali/talktalk
as this modem is incompatible with their service. this router only uses pppoe and most uk broadband providers use pppoa.this router would be great for cable but avoid it if you have a dsl line.

Had this router for years, never failed, connection signal via wifi is enough even in my rather long house. its simple as hell to set up compared to the other brands.

- stupid
I bought this because my current router is old and becoming faulty, I get it then it says something about connecting it to a modem, my other router just pluged into the wall with a network cable. I tried ignoreing this step but the hole for the network cable is to big and doesn't fit right. So I go looking for modem to buy even though I thought I had one? (the bit on the wall) But there is no modems like the one it's telling me to plug into. complete waste of money.

- Bridging router for my Speedtouch
I bought the router to use as a bridge for my Speedtouch, and it works excellently - as expected. I got the info from online forums after buying the wrong router from another company (not their fault).
Recommended if you need a bridge, or if you want to install your own firmware on something. It's old, but that doesn't seem to matter at all.

- Flexible piece of kit
We buy these units to install OpenWRT and enable native IPv6, which takes about 20 minutes from opening the box.
The WRT54GL supports bridging with a modem in PPPoE mode, so in the UK is suitable for bridging to some LLU ADSL2+ circuits. For PPPoA circuits one would need to configure forwarding to a gateway router. Otherwise the WAN functionality can be disabled and the unit used as a LAN switch.
Due to the length of internal wiring, the right-hand antenna
has a stronger signal than the left. However they are on RP-TNC fittings so can be replaced with high-gain units if necessary.
Neither elegant nor immensely powerful ( only supports 11B, 11G, and 100 mbps Ethernet ) but sturdy and reliable.
