Rating: 4 of out 5 - Good value

I've owned this for a year now and on the whole have been very pleased.

The sound reproduction is superb and the keys are nicely touch-sensitive. The range of sounds is excellent but I have only ever really used it in the realistic 'grand piano' setting. However,to get the best you really cannot do without the optional sustain pedal and this is subject to the niggling fault of arbitrarily reversing its settings from time to time.

For spirited playing I recommend investing in a substantial stand. I bought the fairly cheap one and suffer the consequences of a 'walking piano' unless I moderate my keystrokes. I have just begun to notice a slight mechanical echo in the mid-range keys as well.

However, I must emphasise that these are niggles only that have resulted from a year of heavy use and should be placed in the context of its low price. Overall, the piano has given me great pleasure and I regard it as excellent value for money. You could spend a hundred more and not get a better instrument.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Top drawer product

After trying to learn keyboard on a cheap controller keyboard plugged into my PC with dodgy software I eventually decided to get a 'proper' home keyboard that made its own sounds. Having looked at various products I eventually plumped for the Yamaha DGX220 - the cheapest in the DGX range. I think I've made a good choice. I love noodling around with it using the many 'voices' built into it. The 'Grand piano' default setting is very realistic and it's made even better with the purchase of a Yamaha sustain pedal which can be bought for about 15 quid (why don't they include one free?) Okay, it hasn't got weighted keys which is recommended for learners of the piano (you can't expect it at this price) but it has got a nice feel to the keys and 3 levels of touch sensitivity. It's got so many different features I wouldn't know where to begin! I bought it for £229 at the beginning of the year which I thought was a bargain then but it's even more of a bargain under £200 now. If you want to start playing keyboard this deserves serious consideration.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - A terrifiic first keyboard

My 12 yo daughter has recently taken up keyboard lessons and we decided to buy a keyboard, predominantly for her to practise between lessons but for the rest of the family too, if only to relive those "Jean Michel Jarre" moments.

The Yamaha DGX220 is terrific and its made such a difference to my daughter's progress with her lessons. I would invest in a headset though if you dont already have one. And you'll need a stand.

As always Amazon came up trumps on price. I shopped around and, not for the first time they were the cheapest, in many cases by quite a margin.
