Rating: 1 of out 5 - Absolute Roobish

I advise against buying this or any other Linksys product.

My first attempt with this product ended with my computer unable to recognise the router. After over an hour on the phone to the charmless, Linksy's support robots they left me to cope on my own after changing about a million settings on my computer.

After consulting someone with more technical nous than I it took them less than one minute to work out the router was faulty.

After exchanging for a second router (same make) I was instantly able to set up a wireless network with ease. However it quickly became clear that coverage on my laptop was patchy and the signal came and went even if sitting right next to the router.

After trying all the obvious fixes I resorted to the Linksys helpline where another arrogant robot told me a host of rubbish.

This included firmly telling me not to have the router closer than eight feet from the computer its hard wired to!!!! How on earth you manage that with the three foot cable they provide defies logic!

Anyway my patience expired and I exchanged again, this time for a Belkin which was simple to install and works beautifully.

I may not be typical but I advise against this product. Unreliable and at no stage will their support staff consider their product may be faulty!!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Working within 10 minutes

I bought this to share an NTL set-top box broadband connection between my home PC and a laptop. Following advice in another review, I ignored the printed quick set up guide, and used the installation wizard supplied on the CD. It was incredibly straightforward. I didn't turn anything off. First of all the wizard checks some connection details (using your setup as it is usually, e.g. computer connected straight to set-top box via ethernet). Then the wizard shows you a diagram of how the router should be connected. It isn't clear that at this stage you should make the connections, but that is what you should do. Just unplug the ethernet cable from the back of the set top box and put it in one of the four computer slots on the router. Use the nice short ethernet cable provided to connected the set-top box to the router. Turn the router on. Then there a a few more stages of the wizard where you can change various settings / choose passwords etc (I left pretty much everything as default) and its done. I'm typing this now, about 10 minutes after opening the box. Very impressive.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Easy Peasey Wireless

I am not a computer bod. But I needed Broadband for working in my office at home (loft conversion 2 floors up!) and for my wife's laptop in the living room. I have 1M Telewest/Blueyonder Broadband from cable, and I wasn't going to try to run an ethernet cable up to the loft!
Bought Linksys Broadband G Router (£50)
Bought 2 Linkys WPC54G (£32 each) (Two laptops - HP on Windows 2000, Dell on XP)

Installed router. Restart computer. Took out ethernet cable.
Installed 2 wireless cards. Restart computers.
Worked.
It worked! Both of them! Even up to the loft, with the router in the cloakroom by the front door, they were as good as when I had the cable in there!
Don't know how it works so well, but it just does!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - works great but please read this advice

Works as well as you would hope. The only fidly part with the installation was which form of encryption to set up. I could not get it to work with the WEP options, it worked without problems when I chose the WPA-PSK alternative.
