Average rating - 4.0 out of 5

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Not bad, but i got rid of it by mistake perhaps...

Great router when i bought it. However, it may have been my isp's fault that led me to buy an even worse product from Dlink. Anyway, the settings are for the advanced user in mind, but the router can be set up very quickly, through adding it through windows (create a home network, etc) or through the included cd. Its better to set it up to the former, as you know whats happening with the network (whats happening to DHCP, TCP/IP settings, etc).A comment to those who are getting dropped connections, this router has a good range, and is most likely a problem with interference. Therefore change the channel to 1 or 12, as the default (6) is used quite often for other products such as microwaves, phones, etc. I know cause i had it with mine. As with all good routers, the channel changing settings are in the setup menu. Another comment to those who think this works with only RJ45 connections. Technically you are right, but there are ways around it; setup a computer with a modem and a network card and bridge the dial up connections and then set that computer to DHCP and use the router as the CLIENT not the server. Thats how companies of the past networked. The port forwarding and encryption was pretty good, and dont forget to change the password from the default, as it is the same for all linksys products. As i said before, impressive range, through a concrete wall 50ft away it still saw it (-80dB)(i have a wood house and i got -47dB from 70ft away). Of course there are good ways to improve signal strength, and the cheapest that worked for me is to set your antenna from your PC in a 2D aluminium foil parabola (not 3d like a satellite dish as they are hard to make) which gives a -5dB decrease which was the difference from "good" to "Excellent" for me. And whatever you do DONT BY DLINK. THEY ARE PRONE TO BREAK. I get more problems with my DL-624 than my old wrt54g could ever have.

Rating: 1 of out 5 - Connections

If you are an e-thicky like me be warned. This assumes all high speed modems have an ethernet connection. My brand new Pipex D-Link 200 ADSL Modem has a USB connection, so this pretty little bit of kit is going back to Amazon. It may say it's got ethernet ports - it might be more helpful if the spec also said what it won't connect to.

Rating: 1 of out 5 - Terrible..... Just terrible

This was a real disappointment for a linksys product. The connection dropped every 5 minutes, and that's when it worked at all. After talking with the support centre it was obvious that this product (version 5) was substandard and actually a downgraded router compared to earlier versions, with half the RAM and half the flash memory of the v4. Avoid like the plague.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Buy This One

Only took a matter of minutes to set up. Currently have 4 computers linked up to this little beauty, 2 wired and 2 wireless. Am connected to broadband, and have had no issues what so ever. Just put in the cd, followed the on screen instructions and was really easy! If you're setting up a home network, and have cable broadband then this is the router for you. Have great signal in the house with laptops, and haven't had a problem yet (touch wood).

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Simple and Fast

Setting this up was simplicity itself.

Follow the instructions and wait a few minutes for all your wireless devices to pick up the router and you are done!

Great product for NTL via set top box.
