Average rating - 4.0 out of 5

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Great reliable router, easy setup

I bought one of these routers well over a year ago. It was very easy to set up and since then it's given nothing but solid reliable service, keeping my network of 3 pcs and a laptop connected to the internet.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Are they designed to go bang soon after the warranty runs out?

This is my second Linksys wireless router - my first was a Version 1 and it gave up about 2 months after the guarantee ran out. I see they now give a longer guarantee but be prepared to replace it soon after - a good excuse for an upgrade! I use mine with a Linksys Repeater and the signal strength is much better - although I did notice that the new router had a better quality of signal without the repeater than Version 1 so probably don't need to use it as much. Worth the money but lose a point for longevity.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Maybe I'm just lucky this time...

I've been using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router for a little over three years now. This was an original v1, bought when these things were expensive and before the current 802.11g standard was ratified, or even stable. Anyway, it became a bit dodgy and blew up last week, rather to my surprise (and annoyance, given it was only just out of warranty).
I read up on the current incarnation, briefly considered the GL version and decided to go with the "cut down" latest version. The box arrived promptly from Amazon (very important when your home network's down!) and was immediately flashed up to 1.00.9 firmware before installation. No problems with any part of the installation, although I do everything manually and turn off DHCP before assigning my own IP addresses and netmasks. The new system has run flawlessly all weekend and seems stable and fast. It also runs cooler than my previous box and doesn't have the ultra-annoying hardware bug which always prevented me from downloading larger (> 1MB) e-mail files by any method other than going into webmail. So, given the good price and generous warranty, I'm very pleased overall.
I remember that I had to upgrade the firmware on my first version before IT would work properly, too. So, potential adopters, this seems to be a continuing "feature" of the Linksys approach. It does seems rather churlish of them to try so hard to avoid firmware hacks at the expense of customers, especially since this has already been achieved for the latest code (if you're interested in that sort of stuff, look it up for yourself: nothing to see here).

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Linksys WRT54G

I've had one of these for over a year now, installation was simplicity itself and it has performed faultlessly. Would recommend without hesitation.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Very good - well recommended

After doing a bit of online research this router seemed to be the one most recommended for use with my particular ISP (NTL).
Well it arrived and not being the most computer savvy person I expected the usual 3 hour set up process struggle. So I was pleasatly surprised when I had both PCs up and running in less than 15 minutes. I've since added an XBox 360 and had a PSP running wirelessly with no problems at all.
