Average rating - 4.0 out of 5

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Not perfect, but pretty close to it!

I've had my Creative Zen for a couple of months now and feel ready to make an assessment of it. Overall, I am very happy with it. The screen is sensitive at first but you soon get used to it. The sound quality, even with the headphones supplied, is excellent. Use of the software is easy and you can also synchronise your music/calendar to your mp3 player from your PC and vice versa which is fantastic for sharing or backing up your music library. It has frozen a couple of times but customer support from Zen were helpful and it is easy to restore. I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of tunes I can get on it.

My only quibbles would be that I can't keep compilations as `compilations' but instead each artist/album appears individually. Battery life is average but I wouldn't expect anything better from anything else. It doesn't come with a manual - but if you install the software disc you can figure it out yourself. All in all I am really happy with this mp3 player and would definitely recommend it and stick with Creative if I choose to upgrade.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Decent Little Machine

I am fairly new to the mp3 world. Anyway, after looking at various reviews I purchased this mp3 player. It is a solid piece of kit which I really like, so much better than the newer ipods which look kind of flimsy to me. The sound quality is also very good and I like that the equalizer can be manually set. I have also been impressed with the software, particularly the Zen Media Explorer which enables you to rip CDs directly to the device. On the downside, I am finding making playlists directly on the device to be long winded if not incomprehensible and the battery life.

Overall, though, so far I am pleased with this purchase and would certainly consider buying products from Creative again in the future.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Better than an ipod?

I'd been considering a 'big' mp3 player for quite a long time, read all the reviews, looked at mates ones etc etc... I'm glad I bought this one!

Chunkier than an ipod (not by much) it still fits very nicely in my pocket. When you consider the old mobile phones that used to get carried round in the days of yore, and even today, this is nothing. The menu is useful, and customisable, getting easy access to my songs. And the buttons are all very simple. The sensitivity of the pad can be adjusted. I've gotten used to it at high sensitivty, but watching my friend trying to operate it at this level is very funny!

The software that comes with it is pretty simple. I prefer to use Windows Media player to rip my CD's. It just means I have a good library system on my computer to play my music as well. It also allows you to take music off and back onto your computer as well as different computers. Just now ipods can't do that unless you download other software.

All in all I have yet to encounter a problem with this. And I still haven't managed to fill it up, even with my enormous CD collection

Rating: 3 of out 5 - The good, the bad and the ugly....

I wanted an mp3 player with lots of storage, without costing the earth - So I bought the Zen about a month ago. Other reviewers are correct, the battery life is CRAP - I have to charge mine everyday. The touchpad is difficult to use at first, but its like second nature now.
The software included is very easy to use and pretty good for setting up a music library on your PC.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - The best so far.

I have only had this a short while but I am absolutely in love with it. I previously had the 6GB one in the beautiful purple shade which unfortunately broke down after 6 months with the headphone socket problem which seems to have been a common fault with it.

However, I tried Sony (software caused my PC to freeze up repeatedly and was no use), philips was incompatible with my PC also (XP only and I have Win 2000), ipods didn't appeal, and also the Sanyo (too basic, good, but basic). After the previous fault, I wasn't put off and went back to this and I have no regrets.

The software is easy to install and use. I am switching between the previous software installed for the Micro I had and the newer software and can work it with both. Its true that the keypad is very sensitive but you do get used to it, however, have had some experiences on buses in the morning, which I am sure has amused fellow passengers! I am now up to over 4,000 tracks including some podcasts, its fairly fast to download your tracks and you can have them as mp3 or WMA (more tracks that way). Its easy to load podcasts on if you so require. It charges up through your PC or the enclosed electrical adaptor so you don't need to buy a separate adaptor. You can create playlists easily enough by dragging and dropping and it lists everything in alpha order to scroll through for you to pick out. You can also record from the radio if you so desire and it will save it all separately for you.

The only thing is that its quite chunky (not a bad thing as its more substantial than the ipod) but I can't find a protective case for it and I have a small deep scratch on my screen already. Also, the earplugs can be a bit hurty - the foam fell off not long after I got them as well.

All in all though I have no regrets and am glad I came back to it and have separation anxiety with it! I have recommended it to everyone I know and would to you too.
