Editorial Review

Wolfenstein brings the Nazi's dark obsession with the occult to life with epic action and harrowing shooter combat. Use a powerful arsenal of both definitive and occult-enhanced Axis and Allied weapons to beat back a supernatural Nazi force that is full of surprises.

You play as BJ Blazkowicz, a highly decorated member of the Office of Secret Actions (OSA). You are sent on a special mission into the heart of the Reich to investigate evidence that the Nazis may possess a new and mysterious power.

While behind enemy lines, you discover the Nazis have done much more than develop a new toy. The Nazis are harnessing the power of the Black Sun through a dark parallel dimension called The Veil, in order to create a weapon of war-ending mass destruction. You are the only one that can stop them and save the world from their perverse domination.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Wolfenstein

This is not a very bad game it's just not very exciting but swift delivery and i'm happy with my purchase :) Xbox 360 version

Rating: 5 of out 5 - One of the best games iv'e played.

Wasn't that imprressed with the first instalment of this game. But it's come a long way since then. I like everything about this game. The graphics are fresh and vibrant, the game play is as good as any FPS, comparable with counter strike. The story is great. All in all i would highly recomend this game. More bang for your buck than any of the present FPS games, which IMO are to Americanised and console driven.
Peace.
Martin. :)

Rating: 5 of out 5 - My Review is For Those Born Before 1980! This is why I liked Wolfenstein in SP mode...

I grew up playing games on the Atari video console, Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum. I experienced the thrills of playing Pacman on arcade machines, and Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Space Invaders etc., as each were released. I witnessed the evolution of computer gaming from its inception. And it is from that very history that I now judge Wolfenstein. And my review is only for those who *also* knew gaming from its inception. For we appreciate the amazing advancement in computer graphics and the wizardry created from grinding out millions of lines of machine code.

I feel that the modern generation do not have the same appreciation for computer games as the older generation. And I am sure Wolfenstein (in *single player mode* - as I have not played it multi-player, where I do accept that the game suffers) has such mixed reviews not because its a bad game by any means, but because people (especially younger people) just expect too much from a computer game nowadays. After all, the 'Wolfenstein' name is a badge of greatness, and therefore too many people expected this to be the world's greatest computer game, an advancement in gaming terms as much as the original game was. Alas, to judge it as such, is to inadvertently invite disappointment. Wolfenstein, by today's terms, is no ground-breaker.

But again, it's still a very enjoyable game. I happily have now spent seven hours of my life playing it and have still 65% of the game to play. All the while I was trying to work out why half the reviewers disliked it. When all I could dislike was as follows: 1) the fact that when you dispersed with enemies and left a map, only to return to it, they were all there again - as if they were never taken out in the first place. 2) I disliked the fact that on standard difficulty level, it was ridiculously easy to advanced through the game. 3) Unless you pay close attention to the map and your objectives, you will find yourself doing a lot of unnecessary wandering around. But these were my only gripes with the game.

My advice to older gamers is: give this game a try. It's very enjoyable and it's certainly clear that a lot of work went into its making. I was very impressed with its graphics, story and playability. If any of you can remember a game called "Undying", you'll find a lot of similarities here. For this feels most like a hybrid cross between that and Return to Castle Wolfenstein; a game I also enjoyed greatly.

Don't let the naysayers put you off, if you can keep your mind open and forget about it's 'Wolfenstein' name, you'll find a greatly enjoyable game here, at a most temptingly discounted price.

Rating: 2 of out 5 - Poor Son of the original

Wolfenstein what can i say, well its totally worth the money if you can get a copy for a tenner. the graphics are lovely i have 512mb 9600 nivi. the game play sucks its simply to easy, everytime you go down a street you kill 5 then another 5 come up the street its like telegraphing each second. you get the odd 88mm on a corner but with the indiana jones thing in your hand you have to be a idiot not to dispose of the 88 and carry on. it does get a little harder underground though but only just the good monsters come out to make things just a little harder.
the game also allows you to, wait for it, carry 4-5 weapons at a time and at anytime you can buy more ammo with the indiana gold you find everywhere. i actually think the paintings on the wall's are more expensive but heh its not my game.
anyway enjoy a little laugh and total time pass with this. its a game you will just keep on your HD and when you want to take things a little easy you'll load it up and have fun.Shame the original the daddy of FPS was much harder and beautiful.
now where is my call of duty....

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Very good - but bad controls out of the box

This game starts badly. The controls are horrible. I had to fix the mouse in console and had to mod the game by modding an already available mod to get viewbobbing under control. View bobbing in this game is insane and makes you feel sick. All this took five hours. It was not easy to do. The average gamer could not have done it. But, after all that and the lousy beginning the game turned out to be really good. It just got better the farther you got in the game. I'm glad I had the courage to buy it despite the reviews. Well you can't play it with the normal controls so the bad reviews are justified. Well above average first-person-shooters once you get it running nicely.
