Rating: 5 of out 5 - Gary Numan is God! (possibly)

As an 80s kid I loved my synthy stuff so I loved Ultravox, Visage, Art of Noise, Human League etc. Of course, I heard Cars and Are Friends Electric by Numan at the time and liked them. But that was that - I never got or heard his albums and neither did my friends.

Roll on 25 years or so...my brother played me a track of this synth compilation - one of the tracks was 'Praying to the Aliens' by Gary Numan. This one grew on me and my brother. So I downloaded Replicas....and then the Gary Numan addiction started! Needless to say, I bought Pleasure Principle, Replicas and Telekon soon after.

What can I say? I dont like these because of nostalgia etc - Ive only been listening to these albums for about six months now! (non-stop I hasten to add!). Pleasure Principle is my favourite (just) with Replicas and Telekon a close second and third (dont underestimate Telekon - it really grows on you!). I couldnt name a favourite track only to say that dont think Gary Numan is a two-hit wonder (Cars and Are Friends Electric?) because he is definitely not. I would say that Im not so keen on his new stuff though as its a bit industrial for me.

If you like the old 80s synth stuff, if you like House, if you like weird electronic stuff - you NEED these three albums. Its as simple as that. If you think that all these oh-so-dull modern indie/rock bands are getting too much give these a go - you might like them, you might love them!

Also - dont forget the Pleasure Principle tour at the end of the year, Ive got my tickets already!

A little footnote - Dont underestimate Telekon! I did to be honest. If you give it a few listens it really grows on you and you start to love it. Its not quite as good as Pleasure Principle and Replicas but its very very close. Definitely takes longer to love this one but give it a go...you wont be disappointed!

Rating: 4 of out 5 - Is this a review?

A brilliant album: what I'm writing about is the terrible product review. I know I'm being pedantic, but the whole point of product review is to be factual and concise, isn't it? This is neither. 'Wilfully abstruse' lyrics? they're quite straightforward, really, considering Numan continues to deal in a world of 'anomie [here, a word misused] and isolation'. The 'chilly' single, wasn't on the original album [it was predated by We Are Glass, which wasn't includedon the original album either], and who, on Amazon.co.UK is interested in Numan's history stateside. The snippet 'a one-hit wonder status for all inthe [typo] US is a really useful and objective piece of information for the UK market - if I remember rightly both 'We Are Glass' and 'I Die: You Die' were top five in the UK. Sorry, just fed up with slack reviewers and felt like a bit of a rant. Oh, guess what. It has five bonus tracks - an electronic [ gasp - surely not an electronic version, from Gary Numan...] apparently.

OK. Bitch over. It's a good album. It elevated Numan to superstar status in the UK [for those of you reading this in America] culminating in his sellout Wembly gigs. That to me might be the problem with this album; it appears to want to appeal to the mainstream and is therefore a little popularist. It's softer and more accessible than TPP. It also hasn't dated particularly well, unlike his earlier stuff, the synths in particular sound dated.
Still, it's OK. Give it a go - and ignore the AWFUL product review which seems to have been written by a fourteen year old practicing for his SATs exam...

Rating: 5 of out 5 - The definitive Gary Numan album

Telekon is my favourite Gary numan album and the best example of his early work, in my opinion. There are some wonderfully imaginative, atmospheric, melodic and quirky songs on here. It's far more accessible than Dance, less cold than Pleasure Principal and has a great range of styles. The only below-par tracks are the opener This Wreckage, which just dosen't do anything for me, and the title track, which is a rather dismal dirge. Otherwise, this is first class Numan all the way and has aged very well. This album was Numan at his peak. A must buy!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Remastered Joy.

Telekon is another must have Numan album. There is lots to admire from this album, and to hear it, in all it's remastered glory is just a sheer joy! Classic stuff indeed.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - GOOD PROGRESSION !!!!!!!!!

After the (in my opinion) unbeatable Replicas lp,and its follow up,the totally keyboard driven The Pleasure Principle, came Telekon with the welcome return of guitar (if to a lesser degree) to Gary's music. More downtoned but darker and better produced, this album was an absolute treat to my senses. This gorgeously remastered edition features two tracks not present on my american edition lp : Sleep By Windows and the free single We Are Glass, which pep up the album with their strong, driving beats, and excellent bonus tracks, some of which are incredible instrumentals and piano solos reminding (I shall burn in hell for this) Rick Wakeman in a particular minimalistic way ! The sound is now a very hi-fi affair and a far cry from that on my lp and early cd edition. The bottom end rocked my whole house ! Lyrics are a tad more personal than the usual b-movie sci-fi Numan had us used to,and the addition of the hugely talent Chris Payne on keyboards and viola make up for the best arrangements ever played on a Numan record. This an absolute landmark in Garys career and an album a lot of us will never forget.
