Editorial Review
Feist is the solo project of Canada's Leslie Feist, a prolific artist who has also played in one capacity or another with Broken Social Scene, Kings of Convenience and half a dozen other bands. The Reminder, her third release, comes from the same well of quiet, appealing songwriting, and delicate vocalizations that made 2004's Let It Die such a sweet treat. This one is a bit more hushed and ballad heavy, closer to Cat Power than Peaches (with whom Feist has also worked with in the past) but maintains an indie-minded blend of confessional pop, jazzy folk, and lo-fi torch songs. The comparatively upbeat single "My Moon My Man" splits her voice off into unexpected harmonies, just dissonant enough to stick in your head. It's hard to predict where her melodies are going to end up; "Brandy Alexander" starts with a simple snap-pulse, and gradually unfolds into a cathartic chorus of sweeping vocal overlays. Throughout, the record profits from a simple, unfussy aesthetic that keeps the production minimal and the emphasis squarely on Feist's cracking, wistful vibrato. Everything sounds deliberate, but not obsessed over, like an e-mailed wedding invitation. It's a low-pressure vibe, welcoming and content to linger. And linger you will. --Matthew Cooke

I heard this album through a friend a few months back and couldnt believe I hadnt cottened on to how amazing it. Why hadnt I realised this when it was first realsed. What an amazing album. Stuff the hype around the first single the album is just as good if not better. Its a must for everyones collection.

- Good times
Awesome album to listen to. Really easy and happy tunes. Good lyrics and voice. Glad I bought it and would recommend if you're a fan of feist.
Rating:
- Spacious, delicate and thoughtful
From the opening chords of 'So Sorry' to the gentle bass notes of 'The Water', Feist offers a soothing, organic experience at a time when a lot of popular music shouts for your attention. Her vocal performances are outstanding; moving from moments of quiet delicacy and vulnerability (Intuition, The Park) to upbeat folk-pop joviality(1234, I Feel It All), while still retaining a thoughtfulness that is present throughout the album. The subtlety she employs in her songwriting allows for a great spaciousness in the atmosphere of the songs. After a couple of listens, one can notice the songs' getting under one's skin in different ways: this is notable on Intuition. The way she delivers her vocals can also be seductive (My Moon My Man, Brandy Alexander), which adds yet another dynamic facet to this fully fleshed out album.

- All a matter of personal taste, I suppose...
After all the rave reviews I bought this CD but was bitterly disappointed. A jarring voice and unmemorable (or if memorable, very irritating) songs/arrangements - caveat emptor, listen before buying...hugely overrated.

- A Triumph!
With lots of albums, I have to listen numerous times before I am able to form a definitive opinion on them.
Not so with The Reminder. From the very opening of So Sorry I was encapsulated. The album's a real emotional journey, with beautifully soft and bare songs such as The Park well complemented by the catchy I Feel It All and Sea Lion Woman to name but a few, which you can't help but tap your foot to.
Great songwriting, great production, and a superb voice.
