Average rating - 4.5 out of 5

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Brilliant Work of Art!

This brilliant work of art, both musically and graphically, is one of the finest compilations to be produced in the last decade. It is rare these days to get true value for your entertainment dollar. Chris surprises us once again with his ability to prove the music industry wrong: Top notch art, class act packaging, brilliantly substantial material and quality craftsmanship CAN be affordable. Blues Guitars makes this musical education journey affordable to everyone. It is a rich feast for the senses and is by far his best work to date. Superb tool also for music teachers interested in teaching the different origins, styles and instruments of the blues. This is the best blues experience to come to market since Crossroads! Well Done Mr. Rea!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Absolutely Wonderful!!

If you like Chris Rea's music, you will love this.
If you only buy one blues album in your life, try this one.
Chris Rea has changed. Once upon a time he was a miserable Geordie, now, after barely hanging onto his life following a serious illness, he has come back and is no longer playing "ordinary" AOR. He is now playing the music he loves. And it shows. From the first bars of track 1, CD 1, to the last notes of track 15, CD 11, he never fails to entertain, inspire and move. Personally, I love this album, all of it. Throw in the added bonus of a DVD about "Dancing Down The Stony Road" and, for thirty quid you couldn't get a better bargain.
Why waste your hard-earned on anything else?

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Outstanding Music (+Outstanding Amazon UK Shipping!)

I do not write reviews. Normally. But this is such an amazing set, at such an amazing price ( I got it cheaper through Amazon.co.uk, than buying it locally - including airmail speed and perfect packaging), that I had to write something. I have never seen or heard anything like this before: The mix of quantity and quality is astonishing.

With eleven albums of all-new material, there are no dud tracks, and, begging to differ from the record executives, there are a number of hit tracks (in a number of styles, from ballad to rock, showing the range of Blues influence).

Blue Guitars is great! Buy it!

(But it is not for everybody: If you do not like the Blues, or if you do not like Chris Rea's voice, or if you do not have a CD player, do not buy!)

P.S. Oh yes, the DVD with Blue Guitars is a fascinating look at the recording of the double CD, Dancing Down the Stony Road, which is also a great album, and a harrowing glimpse into Chris Rea's health struggles. II think that that the 20 tracks on that album go together very well with the 137 tracks on Blue Guitars.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - More than just a CD! Art at it's finest

This is WAY more than a collection of cd's! This is an educational tool about the history of the blues. Chris, Sylvin and Robert have outdone themselves with the variety of instruments, the variety of styles of play, the sound mixtures and the presentation of an important musical history! Do Not Rush Through this musical and artistic journey or you wll shortchange yourself. Each cd is a journey that needs patient listening so you do not miss it's intricacies and messages. Blue Guitars will surprise you, stun you, and hit you with the impact of bullet. It's that damn good! And the presentation of this journey is worth the price of the package alone. SUPERB! Now, Take a vacation with your family Mr. Rea!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Chris Rea for blues guitarist of the year (sorry Eric).

This album is a labour of love that exceeds expectatons. Each disk is a well crafted tribute to the blues styles of the past. Each new unique song is a joy to listen to, and there are at least 2 real gems on each disk. 5 stars is not enough to describe this collection.

Dancing down the stoney road was fantastic, this is better by far for any blues fan.

When the music awards are being handed out Chris should be amongst the recipients, if there is any justice in this world.
