Average rating - 4.5 out of 5

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Groud Breaking Music even for the younger generation.

Despite the fact this album is really really 80's the music still sounds just as poignant today. Shout (a song I think is supposed to be about the cold war) is like visiting the berlin wall while it still divided the capitalist and communist world. Everybody wants to rule the world reminds us that power goes to peoples heads (especially politicians). Mad world is a very depressing song but an artistic masterpiece and is widely recognised as one. Head over heels and pale shelter are also amazing songs about relationships. Woman is chains is an amazing song about femminism.

Overall this album contains very talented artistic music by probably one of the most underrated bands of the 80's. The music serves as a reminder the world of the 80's was a much more unstable and difficult place.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Kitsch?

'Kitsch' is a german word and it is condescending - now there is a suprise. i'm assuming that this is kitsch because it shows emotion like joy division showed emotion and this, and the new romantics don't live up to the earlier romantic movement? isn't all modern music kitsch? isn't there always some superior artist from earlier times who had it worse and had better reason to be emotional? sorry i didn't have a few grand to blow on an art degree. joy division is kitsch, but nivarna are just fine and dandy because curt coban had more reason to kill himself than the bloke from joy division? 80s music has always been looked down on, especially synth pop and especially by americans and ageing rock fans who take offence that someone might play an instrument other than the guitar. i think people who use words like 'kitsch' are closet social-darwinists.

i can understand people putting down most modern music because the people playing and singing it normally didnt write it. these guys wrote their own songs, played their own songs and dared to express emotion when others from older times had done this better lol.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - never forget.

one of the most imaginative and seminal bands of the 80's,tears for fears created many near perfect electro pop records that have stood the test of time, its not often a duo who play fantastic music also has two outstanding vocalists aswell.its just a damn shame that it took gary jules's pretentious, awful cover of mad world to make people remember them.apart from depeche mode, pet shop boys and erasure tears for fears were the best of that scene.buy this now!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - SOLID COLLECTION SPANNING A DECADE

This is a solid collection of Tears For Fears from 1982-1992, and basically includes all the singles released from that era. The chronological order of the songs is somewhat odd since it keeps jumping from tracks from the 'Sowing the Seeds of Love' album to 'Songs from the Big Chair' and 'The Hurting'. There is also a non-album track, 'Laid So Low', which was released as a single after the 'Sowing the Seeds of Love' album and before the 'Elemental' album.

Finally, the USA compilation 'Shout: The Very Best of Tears for Fears' features all these songs, plus additional tracks from 'Elemental' all in chronological order, making it a more complete and attractive collection of singles if budget is not an issue. However, this is still a fine collection and a good introduction to the music of Tears For Fears.

Rating: 3 of out 5 - Donnie Darko fans beware!

If you liked 'Mad World' at the end of Donnie Darko, get the soundtrack. This original version is vvvvvvvery dated.

If, on the other hand, you are a Tears for Fears fan, why don't you just get the complete albums? You know best ofs are like McDonalds; the do taste nice but you find that half an hour later - damn, you need more!

So what I say to you is: eat healthy!!!
