- The Last Hot Minute
One Hot Minute is the first and only Red Hot Chili Peppers record that featured ex-Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. Coincidentally it also found the band on a darker, richer vein of form than they had been on their previous albums (and indeed the records that followed).
Although there is no denying that 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' will remain the highlight of their career, 'One Hot Minute' is its equal. But, it will forever be discarded by 'fans' of the band who dislike its 'experimental' sound.
For those fans who discovered the 'Chili Peppers following the success of Californication and By The Way, One Hot Minute is bound to disappoint. It's dark and edgy and although it plays unlike anything the band produced before, or after, Navarro's stint you can't help but feel that something doesn't quite fit.
The lead-off single, 'Warped', was certainly an indication of what to expect. The band had never sounded so full or heavy. The instrumentation is busy, which seems to highlight the musicianship of the band more than their other records (though there's no denying that Flea always brings his 'A' game to the table). This is evident throughout much of the album.
Navarro turned the band on its head. Turned them into something more than the band they were (or the pop band they would become), but it just wouldn't work out.
There's definately a different feel and atmosphere surrounding each of the album's tracks. But that's no bad thing. One Hot Minute is a great record. Possibly the record that they needed to make in order to exorcise their demons.

- Pretty Fine!
This offering from the Chili's is their second album under Rick Rubin, and the difference in sound compared with that of Blood Sugar Sex Magik can be attributed to the influence of Jane's Addiction (another great band check out they're albums Ritual de lo Habitual and Nothing's Shocking) guitarist Dave Navarro, who replaced John Frusciante in 1993.
On first listening, this album does seem rather dissapointing, but by sticking with it I realised what a good and underrated album it is. It is very different to other Chili Peppers stuff, as it is darker and more psychedelic. This album does not quite live up to their previous album Blood Sugar Sex Magik (They're best in my humble opinion) but is certainly worth buying as like I say after a few listens you will appreciate just how good this album is.

- A hidden gem...
Typically, people will take this album, have a listen and discard it. Upon first listen, a relative new comer to the Chili Peppers will find it difficult to accept the new sound. Veteran Chili fans will notice the darkness that has seemingly taken in the remaining band members - Anthony, Flea & Chad.
With the departure of John Frusciante, the Red Hot Chili Peppers took on Dave Navarro [of Janes Addiction] and went into a new musical direction. One Hot Minute is an album that takes some getting used to. It has a much heavier feel, probably due to Daves heavy-rock sound and to the general vibe within the Chili Pepper camp. There's a distinct feeling of confusion, loneliness and paranoia in the lyrics. The music is heavier than usual. Anthony's voice often merging into a barrage of sound. Chad's drumming is cited as some of his best ever and Flea's basslines just as excellant.
If you're new to the Chili Peppers, I would avoid buying this album until you've come to appreciate just what they're about and what they've been through.
Musically though, it's extremely strong with little in the way of weak songs. An album for the special occasion.

- Last great Chili Peppers album
This was probably their last great album before adopting the more bland "middle of the road" rock sound which has been prevalent on their later releases
