Rating: 5 of out 5 - TAPESTRY IS TIMELESS

Unlike most people - I didn't pick up on Carole King until a couple of years ago when I bought this CD. What had I been missing for 30 asomething years? Quite a lot. Even though this recording comes from the early 70s, it sounds fresh and relevant today with its themes of loneliness, romance and inspiration. Almost every track is well known or has been covered, but few have bettered the original. In the UK, only the saga of her breaking up marriage to Gerry Goffin, IT'S TOO LATE made the singles chart, but YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND, a hit for James Taylor (who sings backup on this album) and IT'S GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME (Carpenters) demonstrate Carole King's ability to continually come up with haunting melodies. I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE is a toe tapper which opens the album effectively and SO FAR AWAY, TAPESTRY and BEAUTIFUL are standouts and what can you say about YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A NATURAL WOMAN - a classic which can still make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. This CD has the added bonus of a live version of SMACKWATER JACK. So many albums of the 60s and 70s are over rated and don't hold up in this digital age - but this one does and deserves its 5 stars.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - a beautiful and timless classic

to be honest i cant really add to the previous reviews of this album- i'm not a music expert but i know that Carole King's Tapestry is one of the best albums i have ever heard. 'I feel the earth move' is one of my favourite tracks ever. the whole album is just perfect for chilling out, and excellent value, too!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - A truly beautiful album

A timeless classic, as important today as it ever was. You'd be hardpushed to find a more potent collection of songs on one album by one artist sung with such conviction and passion. When Carole expresses her frustration at no-one "living in one place anymore" on So Far Away, you know exactly what she's going through. Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow is done without the dancebeat that most people are familiar with, and is much the better for it.

Anyone who has ever been in love should never be without this album. Forget your modern troubadours of love songs (Whitney, Mariah, Celine, etc.). Carole blows them away.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - A song for every mood.

A classic album. I bought copies of this for years and given them away as presents to many people who have then experienced the delights of this album. The words are like poetry, they express love, sorrow, happiness, melancholy and there's a ballad - "Smackwater Jack" which on it's own is OK but seems a little out of sorts with all other tracks on the album.

The version of "You've got a friend" surpasses the James Taylor hit. "Will you still love me tomorrow" - many hits for others but again the mood and vocals make this the superlative version. "You make me feel like a Natural Woman" - how I'd like to make a woman sing about me (what a compliment), she must have written this about someone.

Should I go on - you get my gist - a great album from a great songwriter. I play the album to remind of feelings at certain points in my life - new relationships, old relationships - life!
