- It helped me through!
This has to be one of the best and decedent albums of the nineties.Mabye growing up in the same place as them made it easier to share their vision. But anyway i think it had all the feelings you grow up with in wales at that time,Boredom,Anialition, and despair And i think from the first song Slash and burn they transport you in to their there little fantasy world where nothing matters apart from music, poetry, art and looking great. They also have alot to say on this album (This is their youth on cd)and i think the lyrics are very cryptic, strong and very dark at times to.The music is like every other album (brilliant i think very diffrent to a lot of punk around at the time.Overall this is my fav album 98%/100% P.S If u like beat poets theses guys can do it just as good but with music as their feelings...

- WE LOVE YOU!
This is one of the best debut rock albums in the world. The Manic Street Preachers are perhaps lryically one of the most controversial bands of the decade, however their unique ability with these use of politics slamming lryics shines through and is not lost beneath the excellent guitar solos of James Dean Bradfield along with his powerful yet tuneful voice which no other singer can touch. Songs like Motorcycle Emptiness, You Love Us, Stay Beautiful, Little Baby Nothing and Love's Sweet Excile will stay with the Manics to the grave and fans still get excited about them when they are played live ten years on. This album is the start of something beautiful, a rock and roll band with strong beliefs which they can reach people with in an entertaining manner, you've not heard The Manics untill you've heard this rocker of an album, 18 songs and everyone is a very strong effort!

- this is punk rock
what an album. as i've heard quoted before - they were their generation's sex pistols. if they had been around 15 years earlier, generation terrorists and the holy bible would be recognised as the best punk albums of all time. but this is punk with more talent. james finally admits that he can play the guitar - and he's damn good too. the lyrics are scathing, beautiful, powerful and so intelligent. The songs on this album are absolute classics and any punk fan who doesn't own this album - what are you playing at? i would mention songs but they're all classics except for the few album fillers which could have been omitted for the likes of democracy coma, motown junk, strip it down etc. but this album still gets a 5. pure excitement and what a live act at the time!

- Good debut
This is a very good album but dont get me wrong it can be improved! The manics have long gone on to establish a more individual sound rather then the punk metal rip-off to Guns n Roses. Lyrics are decent and a few tracks stick out and the album is easy to get into a job well done!

- Astonishing' Think-Rock' debut from a confounding band
These songs reveal a cogent socialist intelligence combined with a fearsome rebel rock onslaught and, at times, a fragile beauty. It's hard to find a flaw in this record. If I had one criticism it would be that the production is too analogue-sounding and muddy, fractionally obscuring the full taste of the musical meat. This album makes me simultaneously want to read/immolate a copy of 'Das Kapital' and play air guitar. Which is why it's more than just an engaging listen.
