Rating: 5 of out 5 - Let's Have A Party!

The second best album by the Chilis in my view, this was the last one recorded with the original guitarist, Hillel Slovak. Highlights include 'Fight Like A Brave' and 'No Chump Love Sucker'. This is a brilliant album, well worth the price!

Rating: 3 of out 5 - Classic Chili Pepper Record- but don't expect By the Way

Out of all of the pre-1990 Chili Pepper records, this is by far the best, probably because it was the only one with the original line up (Kleidis, Flea, Slovak, Irons). It therefore has the raw intensity most of their other records lacked. There's plenty of funky good-time music, like 'Fight like a Brave' and 'No Chump love sucker', and some more sophisticated efforts like 'Walking Down the Road' and 'Love Trilogy', which have clever harmonic variations.
Ironically, the most succesful songs when it was released (Me and My Friends) and (Behind the Sun) sound the most dated now, and the obsession among the mid 1980s funk-metal explosion for really lame choruses shouted by all the band members in unison grates. But although this stops the album reaching its full potential, it doesn't stop it being an good listen. This stuff is a world away from their modern material though, but if you were a Californication fan and wanted one old album to prove you were a genuine fan, this would be about the best you could do.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Pure funk on a disc

Many people, having heard the by the way,now conaider themselves to be huge chilis fans, but this is the original chilis, the chilis at their best. Their early stuff was much funkier than most of the songs nowadays. Ig you remain open minded then you can enjoy and appreciate both eras of chilis, the funk-filled albums like the uplift mofo party plan, and the rockier by the way and californication. Mofo is a fantastic album-pure funk on a disc,i would recommend this album to anyone with any musical taste whatsoever. Funk it up!!!!

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Not as accessible, but just as good nonetheless

Although this isn't as accessible as some of their later albums, this is a perfect example of the chilis' genius. The sound is less polished than the one they adopt on mothers milk, and its a lot more funky than the mellow feel of californication. However, it's just as good (if not better) quality music, and it shows that they've always had the ability to write wonderful songs. Personal favourites are fight like a brave, backwoods, ncls, oabbb and subterran homesick blues, but its really a matter of opinion. If you like their earlier stuff id advise you to buy this, because its almost as much of a classic as bssm.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - A MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!

This album is a classic. anyone who likes the Chili Peppers should buy this. It is more raw and not so much commercial as more previous albums. Slovak shows his talent on the guitar while Flea is rocking on the bass. This album is amazing and definetly one to savour. Songs to look out for on this album are love trilogy and behind the sun. This is a true masterpiece.
