Rating: 5 of out 5 - The Look of Love

I was given this album by my son. Who is this Diana Krall I thougt. I have now played the whole album over 300 times and never tire of it. I play it non -stop on a three and a half hour car journey. It relaxes and keeps you alert, because you have to sing along. In fact this album should be prescribed on the NHS. This is a "must buy" Everyone I have let listen to it has rushed out and bought a copy.

If Diana reads this, my address can be made available, he he.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Diana continues with a successful formula

Following the success of her two previous albums, Love scenes and When I look in your eyes, Diana recorded another album in similar style. It doesn’t quite make the same impact, but that may be due to raised expectations because this is still a high quality album.

Diana has once again selected songs from the Great American Songbook to fill the album, though this time she also has included a sixties song, The look of love, which was a hit for Dusty Springfield, and a fifties song, Cry me a river, which was a hit for Julie London.

S’wonderful was originally a top five American hit in 1928 for the long-forgotten Frank Crumit. Love letters was a hit for its writer, Dick Haymes, in 1946, but only really became popular when Ketty Lester covered it in the sixties and had a huge international hit with it. Elvis Presley and Alison Moyet have also had huge hits with their covers. I remember you is another 1940’s song that waited for the sixties to gain popularity, this time via a Frank Ifield cover.

Diana sings these songs as well as anybody, and also plays piano on all tracks. However, all tracks feature either the London symphony orchestra or the Los Angeles session orchestra, so Diana does not get the chance to show just what she can do with a piano.

This is a wonderful album that confirms Diana as the leading jazz lady in the world today.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Sublime. my type of Jazz

I guess just like all music, jazz comes in different 'styles'. Full on jazz does nothing for me but Diana Krall's style is a different story all together. I had only heard her once or twice on TV clips so really had no idea as to what she really sounded like but due to the constant praise in the press I decided to take the plunge. There was no particular reason I chose this album over her others but what an introduction. Her voice is perfectly suited to the style of jazz she sings and is backed up by some wonderful piano playing and musical accompaniment. True jazz aficionado's have apparently not been so enthusiastic about this album but don't let that put you off. Put this on in the background (or even better through headphones) and just enjoy. This is a sublime album from a true artist.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Are you sitting comfortably? - then Diana will begin ......

I came across Diana Krall by accident - the BBC's Parkinson show, where she performed one of tracks from the album - and an appearance on Later With Jools Holland. Not only did I find her extraordinarily attractive, but such a wonderful pianist and singer.

I am not a jazz afficiando so, unlike other reviewers, I can't compare her rendition of the tracks on this album with other singers who have sung these songs, but I think Diana Krall does a fantastic job here.

This is an album you can listen to in traffic if you want to stay unstressed, but it is much better to be sitting comfortably with headphones on in a darkened room. The songs are sung and played beautifully, with understated subtlety and I love the orchestra.

Picking the stand-out tracks is very tough, but if you twist my arm, I would say they are "I Remember You", "I Get Along Without You Very Well", "Dancing In The Dark" and the title track.

If this leads other reviewers onto her other albums, I'll be very pleased, because there are no failures. Also, I had the Live in Paris DVD bought for me. I was in tears of joys watching and listening - it was sensational.

This is a "must have" album, as her other albums will become. Go buy it quickly - Diana Krall is a superstar and a Canadian treasure.
