It for some reason was the only piece by them I hadn't bought yet but as with everything Jack puts his name to , I love it !
Rating:
- One of the best, ever
I'll keep it short and simple. This is an amazing album, one of the best you will ever hear and maybe the White Stripes best.
Rating:
- The first in a long line of success
I didn't buy my "stripes" albums in order. I started with Icky Thump and worked roughly backwards. Often when doing this it is so much harder to appreciate the first album or two, as more recent work tends to have more talent in it. But not in the case of the first White Stripes album, "The White Stripes". The punk tinted garage rock sound is strong from the off, with heavy, fuzzy guitar and simplistic drums, held by Jack White's strong and wailing vocals.
The covers on this album are incredible- "Cannon" is a rewritten gospel song, and "St.James Infirmary Blues" known as the first recorded blues track, both fit snugly into the rest of the set, performed in Jack and Meg's unique style, you see a different face on the original southern American sounds.
For any Stripes fan this is a must, but also any contemporary blues fan, this album is worth a look at. Well worth the price paid for it as well.

From the pounding drum intro to opening track 'Jimmy the Exploder' this album is a winner. Check the liner notes; they even give credit for the loan of the 18" floor tom that helps to make this massive racket. Zipping through 18 songs in 45 minutes, these selections are stripped down, raw and full of energy. The reverb is cranked up high, the playing is intense, and the attitude is ferocious.
I've been a bit of a latecomer to the White Stripes, but I've almost caught up now. I think De Stijl is still my favourite, but this one comes close. It's what the White Stripes are supposed to sound like.
And that's all I have to say about that.

- Garage rock!
The reason I like the white stripes so much is because it's so raw and emotional.
I love the way jack sings and I love the way meg drums.
"The Big Three Killed My Baby" is the best track on the album and "Broken bricks" is amazing too.
and, btw, the songs on this album isn't like "Seven nation army", you may have to listen to them a couple of times before you're really starting to like them.
