- amazing
in this album, the songs are a lot more advanced than on their 1st 2 albums, and this is good because they are even more unique now. anyone who has just heard early 'chair will maybe find this sound a bit of a large change, but those who have heard neon ballroom will appreciate the advance in songwriting, and implementation of strings and brass as seen briefly on the previous album. to keep the album varied, there are some heavier riffs, in 'one way mule' and 'lever' which is as close to their old stuff as it gets on this album.
basically, 3 words: go buy now.

- New sound tears right through you
I first heard of Silverchair when they released Freak Show, which was great. I eagerly anticipated their next album, Neon Ballroom, that was even better because they seemed to have grown up & put more meaning into their lyrics.
Obvioulsy I was looking forward to Diorama, but when I actualy heard it, it was amazing. I was going through a depression at the time but once I had listened to this album it gave me a glimpse of hope. That may sound cheesy but it realy did. This may well be their best piece of music that they have written, with beautiful lyrics, at points harsh guitar riffs & even orchestra through out the album.
This album is so uplifting & realy does suck you into a world of its own.
I would recommend it to any one that likes meaningful lyrics & brilliant riffs.

- The best album yet
When I first bought the album I wasn't sure what to expect from a band who's last offering was three years ago, but Neon Ballroom was so good i had to check it out. The first thing you'll notice is the brightness of the colours on the cover. This is certainly reflected in the brightness and vibrancy of the music. The opening track 'Accros the night' is one of the most ambitious pieces of contempory music i have heard in my life, a magnificent sybiosis of epic guitar and beautiful string and brass. This sets the tone for the rest of the album. There are of course lapses back in to the old riff driven silverchair songs but these add to the overall effect of the album. Perhaps the most ambitious tune from the album is 'tuna in the brine' in which Johns seems to have reached a new level of musical complexity and adaptability. Diorama is certainly more than a collection of songs, it is a journey, an escape in to a place more beautifull than the world we live in, it is fitting then that 'diorama' means a world within a world because this is the effect the album has. So put the headphones on, turn the light off and escape.

- Quality.
It is simply quality. Daniels voice is impeccable and at its very best in 'without you';the versatility of it is something else. The whole album is simply outrageous, ambiguous talent that has yet to get proper recognition over here. If you like Neon Ballroom you will definitely like this.

- Big, Big Sound - The 'Chair are epic and all grownsed up!
Well here's something you may not have expected from Silverchair's 4th studio album.
If 95's 'Frogstomp' was all youthful exuberance on a Nirvana template, 97's 'Freakshow' was trying to be taken seriously and 2000's 'Neon Ballroom' trying to shake the (post)-grunge label, then 'Diorama' clearly shows Silverchair developing a whole new side to their sound and impressive it is too.
Brass, Strings, Piano's, sweeping playful vocals and arrangements, even a bloody harpsichord. Thats just on fantastic opener 'Across the Night'.
It is clear that the band have progressed to happier times as 'The Greatest View' and the fantastic 'Without You' amply establish, gone are the down beat self loathing musings on Neon Ballroom (see Anna's Song and Emotion Sickness). What we have now is a band brimful of confidence and not afraid to experiment with different styles and influences.
'The Lever' harks back to the good old days when grunge was grunge with a glorious riff and singalong hooks. This and 'One way Mule', another stomper, highlight just how far the boys have come. 'Luv you Life' is an evocative tune and again showcases how it would have been easy, in todays climate, to release a guitar album by numbers but messr's John's and co have dusted themselves down and come up trumps an album for the summer, heartfelt, bouncy and as catchy as the flu.
