- This hits the spot
I could go on and on about Maiden. Probably one of the best Metal bands in the world ever. For a potted history of their music you needn't look further than this album. It hits the spot!!!

- Making your mind up!!
I agree totally with you, Frankingsteins! The cash cow that is Iron Maiden must almost be dry. I frown upon "Best Of" albums anyway..if you are a fan of the band then buy their albums..don't be told which are the tracks you'll like..find out for yourself!
These ARE great songs and not too far off the mark but unless you order Carling at the bar because you can't be bothered to think about what else is available then do yourself a favour and have a look round the albums yourself. You might actually LIKE Carling in which case you have my condolences.
I mean....where's "Killers"?! I know it varies from person to person but this is what I mean about making your own choices. This is my personal fave (with Dianno, not Brucey-boy) and it's missing. The track listing is;
1.The Ides Of March
2.Wrathchild
3.Murders In The Rue Morgue
4.Another Life
5.Genghis Khan
6.Innocent Exile
7.Killers
8.Prodigal Son
9.Purgatory
10.Twilight Zone
11.Drifters
Oh, acually, it IS there! Soz about that! But still..the point is valid. If EMI had decided to omit it I might not even know about the track.
A good compilation but make up your own mind!

- don't knock it.....
The only fault with this excellent collection of Maiden tunes is the absence of songs from Iron maiden and Killers. There are a couple of songs that should never be left off a Maiden compilation, namely, Iron Maiden, Phantom of the Opera, Killers and Purgatory, non of these make it onto this album, if they did it would be a 10 out of 10. As it is I'll have to give it 9.5, but even as someone who owns 20 maiden cd's, this one gets played regular - buy it, you'll love it.

- Pretty Fantastic!
OK. This was my first Maiden Album, and I loved it too much to be true. However afterwards, i heard alot more Maiden, that wasnt on the album. I feel That a few songs on edward the great like, "bring your daughter" and "man on the edge" shouldn't be on here, and think they should be replaced with "stranger in a strange land" and "Hallowed be thy name".
if they made this album after Dance of death, i would have Lobbed Paschendale on as well!
All that aside, this album is absolutely insanely good. The wicker man and the live version of Fear of the Dark is such an amazing climax to an amazing album. This album will get you hooked from the first 5 songs, then it tails of a little, but only a little, then finishes amazingly. Just generally one of my personal favourite, heavy metal albums of all time. I recomend this to everybody!!

- Oh it's Best of the...no it's not
And so it's the other Iron Maiden 'best of'. If the first 'Best of the Beast' hadn't disappeared off the face of the earth I would slaughter this album, but instead I'll just complain a little.
If a first-timer comes along and gets this he/she will not know Paul Di'anno existed. maiden have some fantastic songs form the early days like 'Sanctuary', 'Killers' and 'Iron maiden' but these songs are missing. The album is loaded with over-rated Maiden 'classics' like 'Run to the hills' and 'Can I play with madness'. Good songs, but did they have to put half the Seventh son album on here?
They also missed the Fear of the Dark album, which means 'Be quick or be dead', 'Afraid to shoot strangers' and the like are nowhere to be seen.
Ah well, this is still the best 'Bets of' Maiden album you can get now, so newbies should go for it. Veterans should join with me and complain about the lack of 'Bets of the Beast'.
