- The Darts are Pleasant
Great single. I bought it for the two b-sides which are both excellent. For a single, it is well worth every penny.

- One of the best ever EPs...oops...I mean: singles
This is better than the album! And that is saying something! I'm sure that, when we're all old in 2012, these songs will be shoehorned in at the end as bonus tracks. All are equally astonishing, and life-affirming.
I hadn't even heard Darts of Pleasure when I bought this, but was intrigued by the smattering of lyrics on the back - yes, of course: Van Tango's "He wore his quiff Venetian style" (by the way - does that mean anything?) and Shopping for Blood's "I am the new Scottish gentry/Anglified vowels - sub-London thoughts" (which means a lot to us Welshies and, let's face it, anyone of us second-class citizens that doesn't live in the Big Smoke!!). There is also an eminently loveable middle 8 in the latter with a huge, sarcastic "HI THERE, I CAN ONLY AGREE!" Shout this to your heart's content, and get drunk!
Darts of Pleasure itself is, of course, pure class: heart-renderingly romantic, arch, and an unmistakable call to the dancefloor. The climax is about champagne and salmon, for God's sake!
I have to admit I love this band so much that I am always horrifed when I find dissenters. And so does my girlfriend. The Metro calls them a novelty. But I suppose no-one takes that seriously anyway... And I don't get the Talking Heads thing at all - perhaps they're both just great bands. FF hark back to the great new-wave bands of the late 70's (Wire, XTC, Josef K) - that, I think, most people tend to refer to as simply 'Talking Heads'!! If anything they have the same energy and life that Blur used to have, before they went complicated, and the sophistication of Roxy - who are otherwise totally undervalued in this artistically barren age.
This band actually aspire to something!
Naja, super-fantastic!!!

- "..WORE HIS QUIFF VENETIAN STYLE"
a fantastic single from Scots, Franz Ferdinand..and you get three tunes for one price! the angular, catchy 'Van Tango', featuring such lyrical genius as,"..wore his quiff venetian style"-did you ever think you would hear those words as backing vocals? 'shopping for blood', a dark,'gothy'journey with a drumkit, skulking in the corner at a goth club-(fun). 'darts of pleasure' makes you want to jump and hit your head on the lightbulb(which i did), a new wave song sang by a dashing fop, and then some super fantastisch German banter at the end!!! as for influences, think Talking heads, The fall, The cure, Nick Cave and DEVO, in other words, if you like those bands then you'll probably like the Franz!!
look out for more of their genius with single 'take me out' album!
Remember:Leather for leisure and velcro for sport.

- Anticlimactic but promising
Franz Ferdinand managed to blow Interpol off the stage when supporting them, so perhaps my hopes for their first single were a little too high. All three songs are quality, but there's this niggling doubt that something isn't quite there yet. The excitement and energy of the live performance doesn't translate as well onto disc, unfortunately. Still, an exciting new band and they really can only get better!
