Unreal....this album is awesome.
Like all major bands created some template for other musicians, SOAD did the same. The bands of the future have a beat and rythum to go by...if they can keep it up?.
Good album

I listen to mezmerize and I really realize the evolution of system of a down music. Yes it's an evolution, cause it's clearely better than before.
B.Y.O.B is good but it's not the better song.
Question! is the same.
The better songs are
Lost in hollywood
Old school hollywood
Radio-video
Violent pornography.
Yeah I know that the other songs are good too but these are fantastics. Soad popularised B.Y.O.B and question! but if you want to hear the best they do, just buy mezmerize.
hell yea!!

system of a down is one of the best bands i have ever heard. i think the reason people think toxicity is better than mezmerize is that its actually a completely different style. toxicity is more metal, while mezmerize has techno(old school hollywood), protest songs (byob), and the regular bizzare yet moving tones of lost in hollywood. overall one of their best cds they have ever made. also... personally, steal this album kinda sucked. except for BOOM! and F the system.

They made a great album!!! not as good as Toxicity but great still.. BYOB, Cigaro, Sad Statue... all for me...only Old School Hollywood is a bizarre song!!!
a great album..

a brilliant album. i have bought all of their albums so far and this album is very different because of darren malakian singing in many of the the songs..
and this has gave a great influence to this album and i have to say the two singers voices work very well together throughout the album.
just to let you know that mezmerrze is only the first half of the album theres still another compilation coming out its name is " hypnotise" but there is no current release date yet..
MEZMERIZE ROCKS!!!!!!!!

I rushed to the store when this was first released, and to tell you the truth I was somewhat dissapointed. That was until I really gave it a listen-through.
While not in the same league as Toxicity (not very much is), Mezmerize is definitely a great buy. Yes B.Y.O.B. and Cigaro are great, but the other songs are just as good. Question is great, and I can't get Radio/Video out of my head.
If you are wondering if this rather short album, just over 36 minutes, is worth the buy, then wonder no more. Go out and buy it!!! Also, if you have already bought it and did not enjoy it, then I urge you to give it another chance.
Freakingly good/amazing

This is probably the most mixed album of them all containing the wierdest sorts of songs on it.(like cigaro, if you've heard it) Usually, there is a pattern of the abulms, such as:
1. System of a down:straight rock(with few different)
2. Toxicity:More on the experimental side of metal all through the album
3. Steal this album: Again metal, but with alot of tune to it
4. Mezmerize:No freakin' clue!

Damn good album. A brilliant comeback from the boring same-sounding songs offered in "Steal This Album".
The variation of sounds and styles in this album is wide, and they have all been dented slightly with system's odd style.
If you like this album, also get Hypnotize. A brilliant double disk album, buy it if your a fan or if your looking for something new to enjoy.

`Mezmerize' is the first half of SOAD's double album release and although it is a slight departure from their previous albums (only very slight mind you) you still get their distinctive sound, intelligent lyrics and amazing vocals from Serj. `Soldier Side' is the song the ties the two albums together, opening this album and closing `Hypnotize', but it swiftly leads on to one of my SOAD favourites B.Y.O.B which is pure exuberance. `Cigaro' is another stand out track for me and `Old School Hollywood' has a frenetic pace before leading you on to the more sedate and brilliant `Lost in Hollywood'. The artwork is excellent as you'd expect and with the album being produced by Rick Rubin you know the sound is going to be clear and completely apt for the band. If you're a fan of past SOAD albums this may take a few listens to get a feel for it but believe me, it will soon become another one of your favourite System albums. Simply great.

This album is proabaly my favorite by system of a down, because the songs are consistently good. 11 songs that vary so greatly and yet are all so brilliant. They are so good that eveyone could pick a different favorite, mine is sad statue its just so likable. Better than hypnotize (in my opinion) and definitely worth buying!

- My favourite album of the last 12 years
I have a eclectic taste in music, from metal through to folk - and this is the album I've been waiting for someone to write for years. Not since the Manics released The Holy Bible has an album affected me so much.
'This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song' is a filler - the rest are wonderful. Crazy, schitzo, gorgeous.

- Maybe not Toxicity but does that make this bad ?
For those new to SoaD like I was until only recently, ignore the usual detractors here.
They are comparing all subsequent albums against 'Toxicity' just like other people are comparing the newer Queens of the Stone Age album against 'Songs for the deaf'.
These 2 new albums are better than 95% of other groups' albums out there.
The muppet who mentioned the lyrics in Cigaro on this album hasn't heard of irony or cynicism. Anyway, if you don't like 1 of the tracks, there's still another 10 classics to listen to.
All I would suggest is - if you like your music loud and challenging - go for it.
My son tried to get me into this lot ages ago and I resisted like an idiot.
