Rating: 5 of out 5 - Easily the best internet security suite on the market

I am a long-term user of Norton products and have always been extremely happy with them. Norton Internet Security is one of the few "must have" pieces of software for the home computer. Each annual release of the software brings an improved user experience both in terms of design and usability.

For the vast majority of use cases you can just install it and leave it. The default security settings are high enough to offer the protection needed for day-to-day internet usage and the regular "live update" process and regular automated scanning gives you a good sense of security. The firewall software just works, with little to no manual intervention needed. It integrates well with both your email and web browsing activities.

I have tried other firewall and anti-virus software but have yet to find a better integrated solution than Norton. The new 2010 version is another step-up from this release and is definitely recommended.

Rating: 3 of out 5 - Great product with a major flaw

Norton have made yet another good product with Norton Internet Security. It works well, doesn't have the same negative impact on system performance as previous versions, and is easy to use. Keeps you protected 24/7. However, there is one major flaw.. When your subscription expires, the product is completely disabled. Absolutely NO protection. In modern times, this is disgusting. Disable updates and online features, but do not disable the entire product. This is obviously done to 'encourage' users to pay for renewal, but is outright wrong. What happens if you've been on holiday or otherwise unable to attend to your PC for a while? You're left with no protection. One flaw, but a big one.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Great value, does what it says

I've used Norton products to protect my computers for more than 10 years and they have been brilliant. The 3 computer package is good value for multiple laptop/PC homes. It's easy to install and works a treat. I've found that it can slow down your processing speed a bit, but, I think the compromise is worth it for the benefits.
I like the idle virus scanning facility that keeps you up to date without interrupting your work.
Each year, I normally renew my protection online, but, Vine saved me the trouble. I could not have been more delighted with Vine and Norton. Once it has run out, undoubtedly, I will be purchasing more Norton protection for another year.

Rating: 4 of out 5 - An excellent product.

I spent a lot of time researching internet security
products because I'd been somewhat put off these applications
some years back by their intrusive nature and impact on the
performance of my machine. If you spend a lot of time online
they are now an essential item unfortunately. I finally opted
for the Norton product and I have not been disappointed.

Installation is simple and the dashboard simple and clear
for getting an overview of your current settings. The "Liveupdate"
feature is great and just goes about its business downloading the
latest updates from Norton automatically in the background whenever you
connect to the web. They are done in a matter of minutes and not
a noticeable overhead.

I ran with this for a year and it handled all sorts of attempted
attacks and phishing software. It lets you know when it's foiled an
attack so you know that it's working, but most of the time it just
sits there in the background. There's a neat little graphic that shows
you your current CPU usage and how much of it is being taken up by Norton.

In terms of performance hit, it's not too bad. I have two laptops.
My main one is quite a high spec. and my backup one is more basic.
On my lower spec. machine, startup times are noticeably slower but not
to the point where I would consider removing Norton.

The reason this product isn't getting five stars is because when my
subscription was coming near to the end I tried to use the product to
subscribe for another year but, despite repeated attempts there was never
any response from the server. I went to the Norton site and had the same problem.
Consequently I let my subscription lapse and before I got round to ordering the 2010
copy from Amazon a virus wrecked my machine. Luckily Acronis True-Image came
to the rescue. These two products are a brilliant team.

Rating: 3 of out 5 - Protective, but intrusive.

I had Norton 360 on 3 PCs last year and got this product for 3 PCs this time. It has slowed my system down no end. It interogates everything before it opens, so it does protect, but it's a pain. I have tried various set-ups, but two of my PCs are still alot slower since this was added. I haven't put it on the third and am looking for something less intrusive.

It does protect and I've had no viruses since loading this on, but it's slowed everything down alot.
