Editorial Review

There's a reason you haven't heard of Cruel Intentions 2, a straight-to-video "sequel" to the seamy teen romp that had Ryan Phillippe baring his polished behind: it's twice as bad as the first one and is only worth a look to see just how embarrassingly trivial it can get. Writer-director Roger Kumble's original was no classic, but at least the game, nubile cast knew how to smack its lips--his follow-up (which, in tamer form, was to be the pilot for a proposed series called Manchester Prep) can't even pout properly. Phillippe's Sebastian character (here played by a bland, doughy Robin Dunne) is carted back out to be reintroduced to scheming stepsister Kathryn, enacted by a woefully unsexy Amy Adams (Sarah Michelle Gellar played Sebastian's ripe cousin in the first film). The two don't hit it off, and Sebastian--far more sentimental than his big-screen counterpart--immediately decides he's all for love, in the form of pristine deb Danielle (Sarah Thompson). It all amounts to a ponderously cartoonish nothing, and includes a twist ending that renders everything proceeding it completely incomprehensible. Kumble has the film spouting homilies on love and self-esteem, then randomly throws in bare breasts; it's like a horny Saved by the Bell, without the kick or pace of good camp. --Steve Wiecking, Amazon.com

Rating: 2 of out 5 - not as good as the first movie

I decided to purchase this DVD after a friend said I would like a certain scene in the movie.

I thought the first movie was great, unfortunately for this one, they decided to completely change the whole cast.

Amy Adams does her best in this movie, but it isnt helped by her co-stars, unfortunately Amy doesn't disrobe for this movie, although she does look incredibly sexy in one scene, the only good bit about the movie, is the shower scene with the twins!!

Rating: 3 of out 5 - Prequel sequel

Having seen the original movie on VHS and having bought the DVD as I had enjoyed it so much I decided to give this one a go, partly due to the mixed reviews and partly because Mimi Rogers (a fave actress) is in it.

All in all I can agree with many of the reviews here, both good and bad. The film is, on the surface, a rehash of the original and even some of the lines from the original are reused here. The actors and actresses play their parts well but cannot compare to the strong three leads in the earlier film. That said it does work on the basis that the Katherine and Sebastian of the first film were very comfortable in their deceitful ways and various plots. Here they both seem to be struggling to find their identities and by the end of this film it does become clear that Katherine has manipulated Sebastian into her way of life although the sexual tension between the half-siblings has grown far more intense in the first film. The sexual content is more gratuitous in this second film, enjoyable on one level but, again, the acting from Sarah Michelle Geller in the earlier movie gave the erotic content far more impact without nudity.

As for Mimi Rogers being in it, I was kinda disappointed as her role was very minor. However, she did ooze class and money in her few scenes and I did wonder whether she would actually seduce Sebastian as her initial reaction to him seemed to suggest.

All things considered this was a decent movie and a nice relaxing way to pass an hour and a half or so.

Rating: 3 of out 5 - A change of heart?

When I first got the DVD, I decided to have a look at the trailer before watching the movie. Now, according to the trailer, Kathryn says something like, "Sebastian can't join the tribunal while he's dating the headmaster's daughter." There's also some clips of Kathryn slapping one of her henchmen across the face, Dannielle confronting Kathryn and some other clips that looked pretty good.

However, I found that half the clips that were in the trailer weren't in the movie at all. And I found these clips to be very story driven. So it looks as though the production crew decided to change the full story at some point during the whole filming process. So, I found that quite disappointing, because if they stayed true to the trailer, the plot would have been a lot better.

On a more positive note, it has a quirkiness and a twisted humour, which can be enjoyed on the surface.

If you are going to watch all of the Cruel Intentions films, I would recommend watching this one first, as this is more of a prequel to Cruel Intentions 1.

Rating: 5 of out 5 - Great movie!! What am I saying! BEST MOVIE!!!! Thats right!!

Great movie, you probably know that revenge is sweet. This movie contains a lot of skeezy scenes!! I love this movie!! If you liked Cruel Intentions then you will love this one!! Just get this, and you wont be sorry!!

Rating: 1 of out 5 - one of the worst movies ever

i watched this film because the first one is one of my favourate movies. but the actors in this one try too hard, look nothing like how they should, and it has none of the class and artistic allure that the first one had. i tried to watch it a second time, but it proved too painful. it's boring and what more can i say? they could have at least invested in some half decent actors. it seems shameful they dare to associate it with the first film which was pure class.

* i don't know ANYONE who likes this film at all.

don't buy this, watch it if you must, but don't buy it, you'll only be dissapointed.
